Defenses faced by Heisman candidates

The competition faced by the Heisman candidates this year is being largely (and unfairly) overlooked in this year's debate on who should bring home the trophy this Saturday. Yes, both QBs put up impressive numbers, but both face truly terrible defenses all season long. For example, Robert Griffin III threw for almost 4,000 yds this season, however, he faced ONE defense ranked in the top 50 nationally in pass defense (Texas ranked 47) and FIVE defenses ranked lower than 100 nationally in pass defense.

To add to the argument, note the average national ranking of defenses faced by the four offensive candidates for Heisman (games against non-FBS opponents by Wisconsin, Alabama, and Baylor not included) below the jump.

Star-divide

Average National Pass Defense Ranking Faced:

RG III = 87

Luck = 79

Average National Rush Defense Ranking Faced:

Ball = 68

TR = 59

Average National Total Defense Ranking Faced:

Luck = 79

RG III = 78

Ball = 52

TR = 41

Don't blame them for playing in a Lame conference.

i do when you are comparing over all seasons.

There is a reason why Spread QB’s typically don’t win the Heisman. Just b/c you put up big numbers doesn’t mean you are the best. Yes all these players had great seasons but if you want to compare one to the other, you have to look at what type of defenses they collectively faced.

Hell, AJ could prolly throw for 4k in either of those leagues running that type offense

RGIII is exciting to watch, great deep ball. Luck is the next Manning-type QB in the NFL, just workmanlike, almost robotic.
I wouldn’t trade Trent for either one, Heisman or no. He fit perfectly with the type offense we run. He also seems to be a great guy, I don’t believe I’ve ever heard his teammates say a bad thing about him, or vice-versa. Very humble, which must be difficult with that kind of talent. I’m proud that he chose the Capstone.
Just one more game, baby! Do it to them ONE MORE TIME!

BTW, was I the only one that turned off football Saturday night and flipped to “Britney Spear’s Top 20 Sexiest Videos”? LOL

…no? Oh. Ummm, yeah me neither.

God bless our Dark Lord.

After expressing my displeasure with myriad issues...

I switched over to some shitty horror flick in which a fridge was shafting people with fat asses. (while imbibing copious amounts of wine) I yelled at the tele, “Um, like, HEL-LO! You’re a fucking frigadora! You’re supposed to be catering to the fat-fucks!” So uh, there you have it… yeah…

I guess I'll have to stick with my promise to buy myself an early 80s Cadillac Seville now that Alabama is headed to the BCSNCG!!!!

Oh, and until Ingram won the Heisman,

I always took it to be a Yankee-fluffing, racist competition devised by capitalist stooges that would just as soon perform an “upper decker” during a White House visit as vote for my main home-skillet, Mark.

Since then, I suppose the competition has gained as much credence as it has lost: see 2010 results.

Hopefully, the voters knew this.
