No way I could pick my top 50...

but my top 5 would have to be DeMeco Ryans, Robert Horry, Barrett Jones, Mark Ingram, and Lane Bearden.

TR at 16 come on man

And where is DeMeco Ryans. The guy played all out and was in on seemingly every tackle while playing for some crappy teams.

by RTR1322 on Dec 9, 2011 1:47 PM CST reply actions

Not only that...

NCAA Top Eight awardee
Academic All-SEC (4x)
Lott Trophy winner
Member of the Jasons
2006 Cotton Bowl MVP

He also just recently gave a big $$$ endowment to the University. The guy is stellar.

Demeco should probably be on there.

When I do my next draft, he will likely be on it.

This list is bogus...

…it includes Ed Scissum and omits DeMeco Ryans. Do not want.

Ed Scissum is a great human being.

Picked me up from school every day in 8th grade. I love Ed to death.

by HunterLJohnson on Dec 9, 2011 6:44 PM CST up reply actions

And to add on to what I was saying...

it was very disappointing that he fumbled the ball, and that the Auburnite recovered it and went on to win that game (whatever year that was). Disappointing, and upsetting. But we lost a lot of games around that time, and I’m sure there are several where you can point to a single play that seemingly embodied that game and why we lost.

However, most of those games are long forgotten. I can say with a high degree of certainty that I will never forget that Ed Scissum fumble, but the reason is because of the sheer willpower he displayed on that kickoff return. He came up a little short, due in no part to lack of effort. If he had been able to return that kickoff, he’d be on all of our lists.

Thirteen.

It was a terrible play call.

It was 3rd and 7. We were on about our own 25 with like 1:30 left. Shaun had run for 90 yards in the 2nd half and our punting unit led by Daniel Pope led the country in net punting. There was no reason to put the ball in the air there.

Granted, the guy who called that play has been to OC for two Super Bowl Championship teams, but I still don’t blame Ed Scissum one bit.

there's

A hole in my wall to show how i felt about that play. Worst playcall in history of iron bowl. Arians was fired in locker room btw

Missing a bunch for me

Derrick Thomas
Cornelius Bennett
Charlotte Morgan
Dave Magadan
Bobby Humphrey
Shaun Alexander – OMG how did you leave that one off?
Lamond Russell
Keith McCants
Antonio McDyess
Several Gymnasts … Meredith Willard, Andrea Pickens, etc … take your pick

by DT4UA on Dec 9, 2011 2:25 PM CST reply actions

Too young for all but Morgan, Shaun & McDyess.

I don’t care all that much for gymnastics, hence none on my list.

I am not a huge Shaun fan. He’s an awesome guy. Was a great player though.

McDyess will be on my next draft.

by HunterLJohnson on Dec 9, 2011 6:45 PM CST up reply actions

My top 50 would have several...

who weren’t the greatest athletes, but I just liked them:

Jay Barker
Lee Ozmint
John Sullins
Robert Stewart
Kevin Turner
Chris Donnelly

Given the recent unpleasantness, I’d have to include Philip Doyle, Van Tiffin, and Michael Proctor.

by TiderInTN on Dec 9, 2011 2:35 PM CST reply actions

Two of my favorites are back to back:
19. Antoine Pettway
20. Terrance Cody

These would both be top 10 for me. Both of them just always seemed to love what they were doing, and that’s big to me.

Also, did Rolando get dropped based on recent events??

God bless our Dark Lord.

Pettway...

…will always be one of my all-time favorite Tide hoopsters….

Rolando never did anything to endear himself to me

besides obliterating opposing running backs.

Rolando was the leader of the 2009 team.

He’s the one that told the rest of the team that they weren’t giving Saban a gatorade bath at the end of the SEC championship game because we weren’t done yet. That team would’ve been much different without Rolando.

God bless our Dark Lord.

#17. Tyrone Prothro

Maybe my most favorite Bamaathelete of all time.

Loving what you're doing

I agree with the above. That’s why high on the list would be:

1. Simeon Castille (I loved watch him run his INTs to the defensive coordinator)
2. Javier Arenas
3. Shaun Alexander
4. Mark Ingram
5. TR

I also have to agree with the above. Lane Bearden was a badass.

I counted more from "other sports" (combined)

than from football which is good as most people only know football.

You did leave off Greg McElroy and Jay Barker. The starting QB at Alabama is a big deal in the state of Alabama. When one wins a NC, even if he is a game manager, then he is forever a Crimson legend.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

by 5026 on Dec 9, 2011 8:17 PM CST reply actions

I like Greg. Jay is another story though.

I loved Jay as a player, but his personality on JOX has almost ruined him for me.

by HunterLJohnson on Dec 9, 2011 8:21 PM CST up reply actions

So your talking personality over

what they did on the field?

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

So HE'S the guy!

The reason women think we want to hear about their friends’ “great personalities!”

((I am totally and 100% kidding, but I saw an opening, and I went for it.))

Thirteen.

You may be wondering how I love Alabama AND I love the Jets... I'll just tell you that the answer is complicated and will take too long to explain.

ewwwie

I LOVE THE ASTROS. Now lets win something!

by ccislanders on Dec 10, 2011 2:25 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Its a completely biased list

How I feel about them personally has a decent amount to do with it.

by HunterLJohnson on Dec 9, 2011 9:38 PM CST via iPhone app up reply actions

Personality has a lot to do with how they do on the field, and yes, how much I enjoy watching them.

As I said above, that’s why Pettway and Cody will always be two of my favorites.

God bless our Dark Lord.

Born in 76

but my favorite of all time is Derrick Thomas. I can only qualify in my lifetime, obviously, but no one has stepped onto a field and dominated an entire game the way DT did. I imagine Mr Jordan had his way in his day as well, I wish I could have watched.

My list would include:

Joe Namath
Kenny Stabler
Steve Sloan
Barry Krauss
Ozzie Newsome
Lee Roy Jordan

And my all-time favorite: Johnny Musso

That is because you like me were around in those days

but if you go back to the 60’s you have to have my all-time favorite- Pat Trammell.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

Y'all probably have never heard of him,

because he was a cross country/track athlete, but David Kimani was an amazing athlete for Bama. Sadly, he died at the age of 25 just a few years ago, when he would have been defending multiple national championships he individually won on the track. He was a 14 time All-American, here’s a short article about him.
