Marcell Dareus: Hey Brinks, Yeah, I'm Going to Need One of Your Trucks
Julio Jones isn't the only 'Bama player blowing up the NFL Combine. Two days after impressing everyone with his raw size, Marcell Dareus blew everyone away today with his raw athleticism. Per ESPN:
Alabama’s Marcell Dareus was particularly impressive, McShay said. He may set himself up to be the No. 1 overall pick by Carolina. Denver will likely seriously consider Dareus at No. 2. Dareus ran a 4.92 40-yard dash. That is a stunning time considering Dareus weighs 318.
The #1 overall pick may be a tad bit optimistic, but he's assured himself to make an absolute fortune with his workout today -- probably 40-50 million guaranteed if no rookie wage scale is negotiated in the new CBA -- and odds are he doesn't fall any lower than #3 overall. Dareus will likely be the highest drafted Alabama player since Chris Samuels in the 2000 NFL Draft. And admittedly, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

If video tombstones come down in price over the years...
… I’m probably going to buy one and have it play that interception return on continuous loop.

Good idea!
Better idea: making sure you’re buried in Austin, Texas.
by Orlando McCain on Feb 28, 2011 4:25 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
You can't be buried in Austin.
You have to be entombed, just like New Orleans. Only in Austin it’s cause of the river of tequila and patchouli just under the soil.
Death, Taxes, and Tim Duncan.
I was as the game and that was the only play I missed seeing
It was 2nd and 1 with 15 seconds to go. I thought that was a safe time to go to the horrible bathrooms as the Rose Bowl. Little did I know what was next…
D'oh!!
If it makes you feel any better (and no it’s not the same), I missed Julio’s last TD (with GMac making the wicked block) at last year’s Cap One Bowl because I was waiting in a ridiculously long line for a lemonade to cure my hangover.
How much longer till kickoff?
I too missed it, but that's only because I was in the band and our seats were really... not good.
I was on the 3rd row and my eyes were about even with the knees of the people on the field. Rose bowl = really not worth the hype. The actual stadium really isn’t that nice.
I saw the entire play.
I was on the texas side of the field near the 40 on the Alabama end of the field. It happened pretty much right in front of us. It was so awesome!

Favorite part of that second video
is Saban running after Dareus screaming, “Don’t throw the ball! WTF are you doing!?!” Dude just put us up by 17 in the BCS Championship game, incurs a meaningless penalty, and Saban still needs mental discipline. That’s how champions are made.
Troopah would have said the same thing

I still maintain
that there should be a separate rule book for what constitutes “excessive celebration” for a +300 lb lineman that just pulled off a pick-6 that included a stiff arm and spin move.

Totally agree.
Anyone’s first collegiate TD, and any time a lineman scores should be governed by a completely different set of rules. How can you act like you’ve been there before, when you’ve never been there before (or not very often)?

I cream myself everytime I see the pick-6 video...
Especially since I missed it while at the Rose Bowl b/c I was already in the beer line trying to beat the halftime rush.
Don't make me do it without the fez on. Oh no.
you chose beer over live national championship game plays?
for shame

Thought UT would certainly take a knee into the half..
But Coach Mack reminded us why he’s the most over paid coach in sports.
But your correct dixie, shame on me for making such an absurd assumption. Didn’t leave my seat for the rest of the game. Btw sorry for the duplicate original post. I warned that those clips get me excited.
Don't make me do it without the fez on. Oh no.
Agreed on Mack Brown.....
the guy has won one championship in about 25 years as a head coach, and that was with a player that even Gene Chizik could have won a NC with…..
Not to shame anyone else,
but I didn’t move from my seat for nearly 5 hours after I got into that stadium. Primarily because it was so packed I wasn’t sure I’d get back in. LOL

My favorite part of that video
is still the big happy maniacal grin on Marcel’s face as he runs to the end zone……a close second is the stiff arm…..I just love to watch Gilbert try to tackle him and get thrown to the ground with one arm….I didn’t used to dislike texas, but they were so damn whiny after that game about colt getting hurt that now I root for them to lose……this past season was hilarious….
Since we had...
…never won a game on the scoreboard against them before, I’ve rooted against them most of my life (except against overhyped USC in 2006 BCS game)….

Understood. I can't hate TX, though.
Grew up in El Paso and San Antonio (military brat). Had great debates on Burnt Orange Nation leading up to the game. Saw their agony this past season, which was reminiscent of some of our not-so-long-ago Dark Years.
Don't hate 'em...
…don’t like ’em. Prefer Mac Brown to Bob Stoops as a human being. Respected Royal. But always pull for A&M when they play, and was not saddened by their 2011 season.

Agreed.
I had one of them tell me the next day that we should be ashamed of what we did to poor Cold McCoy. Seriously?! It’s not like he was a tree, for goodness sakes!!
How much longer till kickoff?
Yeah I heard the same sad song from a texas fan I know.......
I just laughed in his face…..and once I had stopped laughing I said that maybe they should have developed their backup instead of padding Cold’s stats all year…..or maybe gotten a running game going……or taught their offensive line to block the back side end when their little puss of a quarterback is going to run the speed option at slow speed…….or for that matter reminded their dumbass offensive coordinator that Cold McCoy was not an option quarterback……
holy shit
It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.

I was sitting in that end zone where he scored
and when Dareus threw that ball I started laughing like crazy. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen on a football field. Of course Texas and Saban did not think it was funny.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

Two things I remember about MD
1) I remember when he signed w/ Alabama…there were some that were quite happy and some (ok me…) that was like “who..well ok”
2) the comments when the the microphone was stuck in his face …standing on the platform in Pasadena..he had just been announced as the Def. MVP….he couldn’t say anything…he just started laughing in nervous/embarassment
Yep, that was awesome.
I’ve never seen anyone so literally speechless. It was great.

I like to pick at scabs...
I understand that the game is over, and I’m damn glad we won, and I don’t think there’s an asterisk or anything, football is a TEAM sport, Gilbert should have been better prepared, and all the rest.
I know this has been discussed and explained ad nauseum, and it’s kind of like people still complaining that Al Gore actually won, but, looking at that photo, how is that not spearing again?
