This came across Twitter from Laura McKeeman (the main Scout reporter covering Cyrus Kouandjio):
It was always considered a long shot at best to get him away from South Carolina, but if this plays out it still sucks hearing it. With that being said, though, there's still 9 days left until his announcement and though I still believe he'll inevitably end up at South Carolina, the whole Kouandjio saga has shown us anything can happen. Keep your fingers crossed we don't miss on both of them.
OTS: Obviously we hope things swing back in our favor with Clowney, but despite some Kool-Aid drinking from the homers, there has no been no real reason to expect Alabama to land Clowney in many, many months. He's made it relatively clear that he wants to stay close to home, and no matter what we did -- and we did everything we could, to be sure -- it was highly unlikely that he left the state of South Carolina, so this is confirming the inevitable more than anything else. I bet he ends up in Columbia when all is said and done, but it probably doesn't make a great deal of difference one way or the other now that the Gamecocks have rotated off of Alabama's inter-divisional conference schedule until 2014.
