After a 5-0 start in league play the Crimson Tide heads north for it's first conference road series, a doubleheader against #11 Tennessee in Mordor Knoxville. The Lady Vols sport a 23-4 (1-2) record, but are currently 8-0 at home. From the rolltide.com preview:
Tennessee is coming off a bye weekend from league play but did host Iowa in a two-game series. UT downed the Hawkeyes 7-3 in the opener and then held onto a 2-0 win in the finale. In the finale on Friday, newcomer Ellen Renfroe struck out 15 and walked none in the shutout win. Overall the Lady Vols are hitting .379 while hitting 34 home runs and 208 RBI. UT is pitching at a 1.86 ERA and is holding its opponents to a .214 average. Individually Kat Dotson leads the team with a .494 average and has powered the team with 10 home runs and 50 RBI. Raven Chavanne closely follows with a .476 average and has added 18 stolen bases and 39 runs scored. In the circle Ellen Renfroe leads the team with a 1.51 ERA and a 13-2 record. She has struck out 122 in 78 2/3 innings pitched. Her older sister Ivy is 7-2 with a 2.40 ERA and has fanned 58 in 58 1/3 innings. The Lady Vols return eight starters and two pitchers to a team that finished the 2010 season with a 49-15 overall record and capped it off with a trip to the Women’s College World Series.
After the dramatic sweep of Georgia over the weekend (and an apparent attempt by the Knoxville Macaroni Grill to poison Coach Murphy), let's hope the team is focused and ready. We'll let this serve as the open thread for both games (unless y'all just go nuts with the comments and need some spillover). (ed- they totally are, the feed sucks.) Roll Tide.
