SEC Championship rests on Florida-Vanderbilt

Alabama's huge 65-57 win over NCAA Tournament-bound Georgia this afternoon brings the Tide back to within a half-game of the Florida Gators for the SEC lead. That means that a Florida loss to Vanderbilt tonight will leave both teams tied atop the SEC standings at 12-4 to end the regular season. Both teams would then share the title as SEC co-champions.

Alabama has won 7 SEC Championships in school history, 4th best in league history. An 8th SEC Championship banner is possible tonight.

There's a lot still left to play for, and a lot is still up in the air as far as Bama's NCAA Tournament hopes. Whatever happens with regard to that (both in terms of the Tide's performance in Atlanta, and the selection committee's decisions in Indianapolis), one thing is clear. If Florida falls tonight in Vanderbilt's Memorial Fortress, the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team will go down for all time in the history books as an SEC Championship team.

Florida and Vanderbilt will tip off on ESPN at 5:00 CST. Consider this your SEC Championship game thread.

Go 'Dores, and Roll Tide!
