Duron Carter Commits to Alabama
This news may have been expected for some time now, but nevertheless it has finally come to fruition and it is certainly a welcomed development. Per ESPN:
Former Ohio State wide receiver Duron Carter committed to transfer to Alabama on Saturday, his father, Cris Carter, said.
"We just met with Coach [Nick] Saban and he's committed," Cris Carter said. "It's a combination of the coaching and the structure and for Duron's maturity. All of those things make it a good match."
For now all of the news articles say that Carter merely committed to Alabama, but I imagine that he probably went ahead and signed his letter of intent this weekend, even though news services are using the "commitment" parlance. Obviously, though, nothing is official until the LOI is signed and delivered -- cough*Cyrus Kouandjio*cough -- so for now we'll keep the headline as committed and will update accordingly when there is confirmation that he actually signed.
In any event, this is a big addition for the Tide, and one that should reasonably be expected to pay major dividends this fall. Much like Aaron Douglas, we know for a fact that Carter can play at this level, and we are in great need of a physical presence outside with the departure of Julio Jones. Moreover, just apply some common sense here... heavily talented, deep teams do not sign JUCO transfers in April so they can be the #4 player at their position, that's just not how smart coaches allocate scarce scholarships. Obviously he needs to stay healthy and pick up the scheme quickly, but I think you can safely assume that Carter will be a major contributor come September.

This Rocks, I'm very happy with THE PROCESS!

Great get.
You bring up “scarce scholarships”, but I think it’s probably not outside the realm of reason to think that Cris could foot the bill, making this an even better pick up.

I think he has to be counted toward the limit
For his first year, since he was recruited. Next year though…

Ah, was unaware of that rule.
…And next year he’ll be enjoying his multi-million dollar paycheck.

If he has a good enough year this year
To leave for the draft a year early, I don’t think anyone will complain. I’m not counting on it though- we should have him for the two years left of his eligibility.
Death, Taxes, and Tim Duncan.
Glad to get this guy

Major contributor major
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
Welcome to the Tide!
Wish the recruiting services did updates until after the start of fall practice to account for additions like this and eliminate the ones that don’t qualify. I know the rankings don’t really matter but …
I just love to win!

I think some people
will be surprised with how good this kid is….he isn’t a scrub and it wouldn’t shock me if he turns into our number 1 go-to receiver this season. He was very good when he played at Ohio State.

Posted in another thread...
but here are his stats from his year at Ohio State.
13 Receptions, 176 yards, Long of 40, 1 Touchdown.

Thirteen.
I guess
I heard wrong because I remember hearing or reading somewhere that he had 4 touchdown catches in his limited time at Ohio State….oh well, maybe he will help out a lot on the football field and not cause problems off of it.

I'm kind of surprised...
that he didn’t go back to Ohio State. His Dad broke records there, and that’s obviously where he signed originally. Prepare to hear more about the academic standards in the Big TwEleveN.

Right.
The fact that the NCAA is camped out in Columbus right now has nothing to do with it. It’s cause we’re dumb rednecks who can’t even spell academics.

From what I understand, he couldn't go back
His core gpa at OSU was still too low bc they would’ve counted his freshman year, so no scholarship. He had to go somewhere else where his fresh grades wouldn’t necessarily transfer.

Agreed......
this picture caused an unexpected stab of pain in my gut…….excited about Duron coming to Bama but OMG Julio I miss u come back
OTS, I haven't heard much on why he left Ohio St in the first place.
What was the reason, or is that known? His dad mentioned “structure…for Duron’s maturity” at Bama at being a major factor. It almost sounds like he felt this was lacking at OS.
Hand-crafted rugged paracord gear: 8 Legs Web Belts
it's been stated he didn't go to class.
He went to JC and wasn’t suppose to graduate until this december but somehow will graduate sooner. don’t know exactly when but will be here for fall practice if not before.
don’t know his story but maybe he has had everything given to him that he ever needed and his struggle in his early college career has hopefully been character building. Wouldn’t you want that growth to continue under the accountable process of coach Saban? Even coach Ryan with the NY Jets wants to send his son to Alabama to play for coach Saban. Gotta love coach.

Going out on a limb, but fairly sure I am right
since he qualified initially, he merely needed to get his grades up and then transfer somewhere other than OSU. Its kids that didn’t qualify that have to graduate.

Ok looks like he transferred from

Evidentally June 2011 was always a known date
and he could have gone back to OSU.

It's generally...
… a good idea to go to class once, maybe twice, a semester, and apparently he disagreed with that line of thinking. And not surprisingly, you can guess how that one ended.
That said, who cares at this point? He obviously went to JUCO and got it together on short notice. Graduating JUCO in 16 months when you start with zero hours isn’t shabby.

I'm thinking maybe Dad (who I hear only catches touchdowns)
has a little more time on his hands these days and made Duron see the light……as in something like “You’re going to get your shit together son or you are cut off….” Always worked on me when I was his age…..
To contain him
but I didn’t know that was said about Cris. He was the guy that “only catches touchdowns” though, per Buddy Ryan.

Dreads...
must have dreads…can anyone tell? Then, we can start comparing. Welcome to championship city, Duron!
Rest assured,
if he doesn’t go to class here…he won’t play. Saban does not play that shit. Apparently, this kid has gotten over his issues that sat him at OSU. My only fear is that he doesn’t get butthurt if CNS sits him for being ignorant. I guess he could ask Jerrell what it’s like in Saban’s doghouse. I have a feeling he’s got his head on right , otherwise, his row will be a hard one to hoe.
