4-2 Samford in the top of the 6th. . . if anyone cares.

Baseball team is much better

on the weekend when we have our good pitchers going. However, we clearly are not a great hitting team and to lose to Samford while only scoring 2 is concerning.

Oh well, we have Vandy this weekend so hope for the best and I do care.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

A lot of it has to do with the disparity in the talent level going from weekend starters to midweek pitching. In almost all of the midweek games Bama splits up the innings between several pitchers just like tonight. Most teams are forced to do this now since there is a uniform start date. In order to get all of their games in, teams have to often play two midweek games. This puts a huge strain on pitching staffs. In the past, teams just had to have one midweek starter who could go severn or eight innings per outting. Now you have eighteen innings in the middle of the week that you have to account for on top of your weekend conference series. HOWEVER, there should be no excuses for losing to Samford or UAB, no matter how talanted they are. Each team has to deal with the two midweek games per week. The fact of the matter is, the talent level has fallen off in T-town. There are many reasons I could list as to why this has happened, but that is a whole different thread in itself, and I’m not really wanting to get on that soap box right now.

We have talent in our

weekend starters and closer. We need to start hitting better. We have very little power on this team.

I think pitching will take you a long way and we may be able to put up a good record in our SEC games but as of right now we are not a complete team by any means.

The weekend starters and closer are by far the top talents on the team. Funny thing is, the closer happened by accident. This team managed 3 hits against SAMFORD. Going to #1 ranked Vandy this weekend is not looking good from an offensive standpoint. One problem could be the Nike bats. They seem to lack the pop of all of the newer bats. Our guys will square up on a ball only to have it fall dead at the warning track. Other teams will have a guy no bigger than a twig hardly hit one and it go out of the park.

You need to forward this Gaspard.

I wish

Unfortunately I don’t think there is anything they can do about it with the contract they have with Nike. Their new bats are just dead. I thought they used to use Easton, but I could be wrong. Some teams haven’t had too much of a fallout from the new BBCOR rules, but Nike has screwed this team.

Wow if we have a contract

that forces us to use a certain bat that is just wrong. So, a player can not buy and use his own bat (assuming it conforms)?

I seriously doubt it.

Most major college teams have bat sponsorships. They get some in the fall to test and new ones in the spring. Most companies make adjustments to them after feedback from teams. I guess Nike either didn’t get enough complaints our just didn’t adjust. IMO, their bats have always sucked. Every person I know that has had one either complained about it being dead, or it would bust. I would guess at smaller colleges that don’t have contracts that players could use their own bats.
