The BCS announced Monday it has stripped USC of its 2004 national championship.
The move is the latest penalty levied against the University in the wake of the scandal involving former Trojan running back Reggie Bush.
via KTLA It was a formality, really, at this point. But the BCS made it official this afternoon. Which means that this billboard will need to be changed.

Well huh.
So, these questions are not new. Since man first looked to the stars and told tales of the Creation of All, he wondered how it all would end, and pondered this day with a curious mix of academic curiosity and abject terror.
Is Oklahoma now the 2004 National Champion? After their 19-55 shellacking, that’s kind of like trying to convince everyone that France conquered Germany in 1940.

Is the Auburnite now the 2004 National Champion? I’m not sure many of us could sanely contemplate a year in which he won not one, but TWO football National Championships in the same year. The consequences of such an occurrence would clearly be catastrophic.

Or is this going to be like the Heisman – there simply was no MNC in 2004? That’s not really satisfying, either. It would be kind of like engaging in certain form of vigorous physical activity traditionally used for procreation, but not culimating in the customary conclusion of said activity.

Thirteen.

wow indeed
thats actually really funny and quite true in each way
Would be funny
if they gave the 2004 title to Auburn and subsequently took the 2010 title away from them. Their championship shirt could just be solid blue with an orange asterisk.

Yes please.
I fell in love with Rolando McClain the first time I saw him. Unfortunately, he still doesn't know my name ;)

Funny, yes. More fun AND funnier...
Give AU 2004 and take BOTH away when Lowder-gate busts open.
Auburn* ARE an asterisk.

After considering the Auburn option
the NCAA released this statement:

That would be cool.

Oklahoma would get it before Auburn.
Auburn didn’t even make it to the game. The BCS is all about the NCG. USC would “forfeit” the NCG and Oklahoma would be the winner.
The NCG is just 1 game, but the season and the process of getting there is the first step, and Auburn didn’t make it that far. Auburn was #3 in the final BCS poll.
It’s only the AP and Coaches poll that Auburn was #2 after the bowls.
But it’s going to be nobody. Just like they don’t give the other team a victory when someone vacates a win.
However, by the same token that USC would forfeit the NCG...
wouldn’t they also reasonably have to forfeit the entire season? Which means that magically, there was no USC, so then wouldn’t Auburn have been BCS #2? Co-champs?
