Alabama Football Leads the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

Eleven of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team's freshmen have been named to the 2011 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll. No other school in the conference had more than five football players on the list released this afternoon.

A total of 74 University of Alabama student-athletes representing 16 teams were named to the list. Football was tied with mens swimming for sports with the most representatives on the honor roll.

The fooball players on the list include:

Also included was Corey Grant who transferred after the completion of his freshman year.

The 2011 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2010-11 academic calendar. To earn a spot on the list a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution, be on scholarship or a letter winner, have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution and have been a member of the varsity team for the sports entire NCAA championship segment.

Last month Alabama had 27 players listed on the  2010 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll which tallies the grades from the 2010 spring, summer and fall terms.

This is unbelievably impressive!

But we should watch the hell out if the rumors of the possible LSU/Ole Miss/Allbarn merger come to fruition.

They'd still need MSU to join to pass us on the list....

Well, shit. They better merge if they want to out-think our asses!

Look at those numbers! In a fit of non-intellectual glee, I shout, “Fock yeah!”

Those RebelTigerBengalBearWeevils would be a bitch to deal with, though. But, I think we’ll be a-okay when they unwisely divide command of their forces between CheeseNuttTroopuhHat.

Wait, what?

Let’s be honest with ourselves here – 3.0 must be a lot more difficult to carry at Vandy.

Thirteen.

Maybe.

I’d argue that freshman classes (especially the ones athletes are told to take as freshman) are pretty much the same wherever you go. I’d agree with that statement for upperclassmen, though.

I fell in love with Rolando McClain the first time I saw him. Unfortunately, he still doesn't know my name ;)

Built-in excuse

At Vanderbilt, part of their lecture hall grade is attendance… and those academic buildings are mighty far apart there. It’s like DC on crack-caffeine, yo!
