Because of the callers...
From the Orlando Sentinel:
Finebaum is talking about Bobby from Homewood, an Auburn fan who is a regular caller. Except not anymore. You see, Bobby has been banned from the show after he called last week and reveled in the fact that another regular caller – Alabama fan Shane from Centerpoint -- was recently diagnosed with lung cancer.
Bobby, according to a producer on Finebaum's station, claimed Shane had contracted lung cancer because of cosmic karma created from his anti-Auburn rants of the past. Bobby also let it be known that he hoped the last thing Shane thought about before he died was that Auburn was the defending national champions.
LATE EDIT: I made the mistake of tuning in yesterday (Friday) and the first caller, claiming to be an UA alum, went batshit crazy, tearing into Saban because of his response to this guy.
Saban's original comments about on whether the AU-UA rivalry had grown too intense from Mark Bradley of AJC.com:
Another incongruity: The manically intense Saban spent a couple of minutes Friday suggesting that Auburn-Alabama rivalry has grown too intense. “We can be all be a little more respectful to each other and still have just as a fierce a competition on the field as we’ve ever had,” he said.
The gist of the caller's comments (Finebaum was silent during most of the call; he only spoke after the caller hung up) was that if Saban didn't hate Auburn enough, 'Bama will find a new coach who will in a few years.
