Yahoo! Sports NFL blog, Shutdown Corner, has an interesting piece looking at pro linebacker stop rates. No. 1 vs the pass is our own Rolando McClain:
Rolando McClain, Oakland Raiders (65% passing Stop Rate, 31 pass plays, 5.3 passing yards per play, 1 interception, 6 passes defensed, 24 pass tackles, 13 tackle stops, 73% run Stop Rate)
More may have been expected of McClain than was produced in his rookie season, but with a very impressive front four taking care of business, he was able to back out and cover from the middle. McClain was especially impressive with his ability to double back and catch up to bigger receivers and tight ends in the open field. He's also adept at stealing a look, barging in, and blowing up a swing pass.

"More may have been expected of McClain"
Really? Someone expected more than leading the entire league Pass Stop Rates and is just barely outside the top 10 in Run Stop Rates?
Oakland went from being a poor defense in 2009 to just above average in 2010. Obviously they made more moves than just signing Rolando but I don’t really see how anyone could be disappointed in his play last year.
I don't know...
maybe he should come back to Alabama for some more development as a player.
Thirteen.
YES PLEASE.
I fell in love with Rolando McClain the first time I saw him. Unfortunately, he still doesn't know my name ;)

If he did not live up to expectations, then the expectations were unrealistic.
He has been a unifying force on that defense. Being the Captain as a rookie and calling the plays on a defense that improved in every statistical category is a pretty darn achievement. If the Raiders were known more for winning than being a dysfunction of Al Davis’s ego, he might have received more votes for All-Pro. Suh had the ROY on lock-down though and rightfully so.
green dot on the back of his helmet
ain’t a fashion statement.

Awesome picture!

The Raiders owned their division last year. . .
. . . and you can be sure that the Raider-D had a lot to do with that.
The thing about Rolando is that when he was “in” on the play- he usually stopped the opposing offense in a crush of violence. In the Ram’s game (Raiders’ home-opener), he cracked Amendola. That Bradford hit Clayton for 2 TD strikes isn’t on RoMac. Rams TE Fells had one catch (but it was long), however highly touted Bajema sucked eggs.
No one wanted to come across the middle after half time.
Raiders’ pass coverage was way better than years past thanks to Rolando and his swagger. Now I like Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews, et al. . . .but Rolando is the superior LB out of all the USC LB class that year. He’s more disciplined, never out of position, and you can’t run past him. He’ll run you down, run you over, or he’ll chase you scared out of bounds.
He HITS. I heard that hit on Amendola and my seats at the Coliseum are on the “cheap side”. (they’re all cheap, fwiw. We’re talkin’ Al Davis here!) There was a total wreck on a kickoff and one of the Rams players left the game. The Rams/Raiders game was brutal- reminded me of a Bama/Awbarn game. Score looked similar too: 16-14 if I’m not mistaken.
Best thing: Gradkowski replaced Jason Campbell. I don’t hate Campbell, he just seems like a head-case and he can’t win important games. There, I said it.
