Looks good to me.

I would switch South Carolina and Va Tech, but who is really going to gripe about a 12 or 14? Not me.

"#6" A&M?

I’m still not understanding a ranking that high for a team that didn’t prove much last year and in 2011 has beaten SMU. Now, if they beat OK ST and then Arkansas, okay. Before that, their top-10 rankings across the different polls this early just isn’t making much sense to me.

Conversely,

who cares? If they win, then they’ll deserve the ranking. If they lose, they’ll no longer have it.

this is why "Polls before October"

is just a bad idea to begin with. i’m participating in a poll on another forum (a forum filled with mostly CFB n3wbs and idiots and boise and playoff supporters. why i do it, i dont know) and its killing me to have to slot aTm, OkSU, and FSU way above where i feel they should be ranked. but as much as i dont think aTm deserves a 9 ranking, there is almost no one ranked below who i feel deserves a 9 more. you know?

right now it seems there’s only 6 “top 10 teams” in college football, and about 18 to 22 top 25 teams.

I don't have a problem with ranking A&M. They seem pretty good.

But, top-10?

Plus, they seem to be getting faster...

and all of their three stars are starting to look like four stars.

Thirteen.

i think we've had the most impressive start so far..

I would even say the road trip to Penn St. was a better win than LSU’s win over Oregon..That was a home game for LSU and they didn’t look pretty in the win either. Im sure after OU stomps FSU this weekend, they’ll move up.

Only hope there is the location.

Of course, if FSU somehow beats Oklahoma they’ll probably be ranked above us so it may not matter.

The good part is that they're playing each other at all,

so one of them will be knocked out.

Very true.

Now all we need is somebody to knock off Stanford and Wisky. Not that an undefeated SEC team would have anything to worry about given recent history and current poll rankings.

If not, Boise's getting in.

Don’t see a one-loss keeping them out this year.

Still don't see it.

They started them out top 5 this year and the hype machine is in overdrive.

If it's down to a one-loss Bama vs Boise getting in,

I’ll bet Bama gets in 9.9 times out of 10.

BSU's schedule looks worse than usual.

New Mexico is sitting at 0-2 after already losing to Colorado State (and getting crushed by Arky).

TCU already lost to Baylor.

Nevada got creamed by Oregon in their only game so far.

Toledo (1-1 with a close loss to Ohio State) could be the best team on their schedule.

Fresno State is 0-2, though they have been competitive vs 2 BCS teams (Cal and Nebraska).

The computers won’t look kindly on them. I have little doubt that we would be above them even with 1 loss.

God bless our Dark Lord.

by CarrotTop4 on Sep 12, 2011 12:59 PM CDT up reply actions

But remember

that little rule about the human polls overriding the computers if they don’t agree? If there’s only one AQ team left undefeated they will be in the top two of both polls.

'There are two pains in life. There is the pain of discipline and the pain of disappointment. If you can handle the pain of discipline, then you'll never have to deal with the pain of disappointment,'- Nick Saban

by J Tadpole on Sep 12, 2011 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions

There's no such rule.

There’s just math. Yes, the computers only count for 1/3 of the BCS, but that’s still significant. And don’t forget that the human polls are counted by votes, not by poll position. Even if hypothetically BSU were #2 and we were #3 in the human polls, I guarantee you it would not be by a wide margin. It would be close enough for the computers to make up the difference.

It’s all hypothetical anyway. Original point was just that I want to see all of the other contenders lose so that we would still have a shot even if we lose one. And even if BSU does hog one spot, that still leaves one more up for grabs.

God bless our Dark Lord.

by CarrotTop4 on Sep 12, 2011 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Are you sure?

I thought I had heard after the USC-LSU fiasco that the two human polls, should they agree on the top 2 spots, would override the computer polls completely.

There’s just the math.

by CarrotTop4 on Sep 12, 2011 1:31 PM CDT up reply actions

I think this is what you’re thinking of.

2004 is when the system was changed to make the human polls a full 2/3 of the total. Before that, they were only 1/3. But still there’s no guarantee that the human polls override the computers.

God bless our Dark Lord.

by CarrotTop4 on Sep 12, 2011 2:54 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not convinced that Wisconsin's coach can get them through back-to-back away games at Michigan State and OSU undefeated.

If it is their year to actually challenge for the NC, it is a disappointment and a lesson to all other challengers that you should only schedule soft OOC games AND do them at home.

where's UCF?

they beat BC 30 to 3 and return a ton of guys from last year. they’ll be 3 and 0 when they travel to BYU in 2 weeks. if they win that one, they got to be ranked.

as for ASU, certainly wouldn’t have them higher than 20 for now. they go illinois and then get USCw at home. they win those two and lets slot em at 15, what do you say?

Docking both NU and VT for crapulence against bad teams.

the battle for the bluecrap

is going to be downright awful this weekend. Louisville is 7 point dogs but i think they can take UK maybe. you never know in this game, and louisville may already have their worst performance of the year out of the way now, hopefully at least…

I'd argue that ECU is better than App right now.

App has been really, really awesome (they were probably the best team in the state when I was in high school) in fairly recent years, but they’re on a bit of a downturn right now. ECU, on the other hand, is one of those high scoring CUSA teams that competes in their conference. And while I’m not saying that competing in CUSA counts for all that much, it requires at the very least a decent offense, which the Pirates always seem to have. I think it speaks well on VT’s defense that they held them to such a low score.
