WV to SEC...I hate this!!
If the rumors are true a terrible nightmare is about to happen. I can deal with A&M, but please, if we can take anyone else don't take WV. Please....take Navy, take Houston, take Maryland, take Memphis or Tulsa. Hold a gun to Floridas head and take FSU, but don't take WV.

Totally with you on this one 50. Also I completely disagree with his assertion that WV is a better cultural fit for the SEC than Mizzou after reading what Bill C had to say on the subject.
Reports are pretty strong . . .
Looks like only Big 12 or Big East schools are in play. Would prefer to see Mizzou. Does the SEC have to have 16?

Yeah, just thinking about WV vs. LSU on a regular basis...
…makes me hear zydeco in one ear, banjos in the other. Damn, where’s the Maker’s Mark?!?
I'm sick to my stomach too...
When the ACC jacked up the leaving fee to $20 million, I KNEW we’d be stuck with West Virginia By God (or is it West By God Virginia).

They applied
that doesn’t mean they are in. The word I have is that clemson and FSU are shoe in’s. The real crux of the matter is Missouri, who is actually the linch pin between the Big Ten and SEC. If Missouri comes south, which is what we should be pulling for, then WVU will not get in. If they choose the Big Ten, we are stuck with WVU.
The word I have is that clemson and FSU are shoe in’s.
Could Clemson and FSU come up with the big cardboard $20 million check to the ACC?
And was FSU and “shoe in’s” a pun?

I think we all remember the report several weeks ago.
They said it was going to be FSU, Clemson, and Mizzou. I’d be happy with that move.
Some say that the new ACC buyout takes all those schools out of play, but you have to remember the politics of the situation. The vote to raise the buyout could not be blocked by just FSU and Clemson so in that situation you might as well vote for it otherwise you give everyone a very public heads up that you are out the door. I’m sure FSU could afford to pony up the $20 million if the SEC looks that way. Something could be worked out.
In Clemson’s case, however, I’m not sure that type of money is as easy to come by and if the SEC has to help both FSU AND Clemson out then can they really afford to make that move? If you have to choose between FSU and Clemson then it is an easy choice to pick FSU. At that point, if you are going to go to 16 then WVU starts to make more sense because they may not even have a conference in the next few weeks to pay an exit fee to. And the Big East exit fee is only $5 million so it wouldn’t be a problem to come up with even if they had to.
I think it is still possible that the SEC sticks with 14 right now, but I don’t know. I think a lot will depend on if the Big Ten starts making moves.
So we're all watching for a Missouri compromise?
God bless our Dark Lord.

Wait, letting in Missouri means we gotta let Maine in, too?
I vote no.

How ironic that West Virginia is leaving Virginia again...
but only this time to join the Southeast.
Wait, letting in Missouri means we gotta let Maine in, too?
And no, I think it means that we get Missouri, but now the Big TwelEveN gets Maine.
Thirteen.

No kidding
isn’t API enough backward for one conference? I mean, I’d rather have Clemson…and they’re orange.
"We run this state, we run this stadium. Now let's go out there and run their ass in the ground"
Virginia Tech would be a natural fit for the SEC. Why can't this just find a way to work?
Having driven through WV twice, I always had that sinking feeling akin to how I felt while playing any of the “Silent Hill” games… or Dead Space for that matter.
If WVU is our only choice, I suppose I would rather jump the gun and arrange for Missoura to jump ship and join the SEC.

Because the ACC is positioning to go big as well
and VaTech and F$U stand to be a two team dominance in whatever they come up with. Miami is done for the forseeable future, they’re talking Pitt/Rutgers/Syracuse – expect other fillers like UCONN, etc. Why go to the SEC as a middle of the road when you hold just as much (perceived) clout with the eastern superconference and basically have one nutcutter conference game per year?
As much as I hate TCU, the SEC should be selling out to get them before the Big East finishes crumbling where it belongs and the ACC gets them…
"We run this state, we run this stadium. Now let's go out there and run their ass in the ground"
TCU... Interesting. I think they'd freak out at the bleak prospects of playing more REAL competition in one season than in their entire previous history.

That could be, but
they haven’t always been nobodies. They were in the old Southwest Conference for 70 years. I think TCU + A&M would give us a much stronger foothold in Texas than just A&M by themselves, especially as compared to the PAC-16 having UT and TTU.
God bless our Dark Lord.
Right
Everyone tries to place TCU in the Boise State basket. TCU has been around a long time and actually had great teams back in the day and IIRC a national championship. They also have had a heisman trophy winner (Davey O’Brien). In other words, they’ve paid their dues in 1-A football and I’d have no issue with them joining, if we have to have expansion. I’d much rather see them than mizzou or wvu…IMO.

I lump TCU into BS State's circle of entitlement because they have piggybacked on everything BSU have done.
In short, Boise did the dirty work and TCU reaped 50% of the benefits without being the loudmouths that the Bronco athletic department is.

Exactly. Not sure how they’ve piggybacked other than just winning games.

With a somewhat tougher schedule
They still need to bump up the SOS a bit, but like you said they have ran their mouths and expected something for nothing. And they are trying to get into a better conference.

A slightly tougher schedule got them to the Rose Bowl. And my indignance towards them is a mystery?
I would have all the respect in the world for Bullshit State or TCU IF they would approach the Big12, SEC, Big10 and APPLY for membership. But no, TCU takes a hollow-like dramatic step of going to the Big LEast and Boise goes to the mighty Mountain West.
Yawn…
And with all of the schools that are jumping ship from their present conferences (or applying to), you don’t hear a peep from either. Golly, I wonder why that is? They’re scared shitless of having to prove themselves on a weekly basis during a regular season.

I agree
They haven’t done anything to warrant a BCS game. No doubt. I agree also that they need to be in a bigger conference in order to gain some respect going forward. I’ve always said that SOS should be a huge factor in BCS games, a lot more than it is now.
That wasn’t really where I was going with my comments though, so sorry for the confusion. I was just saying that if we had to expand, I’d rather it be TCU joining the SEC than some of the others I’ve heard out there since at least they have some history on their side.
You mentioned VT as an addition. I’d be ok with them as well. They don’t have the history that some of the others do (hell, we played them for homecoming iirc), but they’ve been relevant for a while now and playing pretty good schedules and geographically have a good fit.

If TCU applied to the SEC I would not only respect them for it, but I would like to see them accepted.
But, I think their courage doesn’t match their ambition.

It's because they are in the same bucket.
Army was good, too. Doesn’t mean they are or ever will be.
I just want the D/FW tv market, like a good capitalist.
"We run this state, we run this stadium. Now let's go out there and run their ass in the ground"
I don't have an issue with Army either
Again, just because they’ve been dormant for a while doesn’t mean that they can’t recover and put a respectable program together. Look at Navy, they have actually had a few decent seasons and played a much more difficult schedule than Boise. The unfortunate thing for the military schools is that they have a much more difficult path in recruiting and that will hold them back more than schedule, conference, etc. At least TCU is trying to get into a bigger conference so that they can get the due respect.
My main issue is that teams like TCU, Army, Bama, Notre Dame, etc have, through history, built college football into what it is today (i.e. paid their dues). Boise shows up late to the party, throws together a good team, plays cupcakes all year and expects to be considered a ‘big-boy’ then drinks all the good beer while they only bring Meister Brau or nothing at all (i.e. free-loading welfare recipients). In my world it shouldn’t work that way. Again, these are obviously my opinions and I’m obviously in the minority.
Oh, and I am with you on the capitalist deal other than ‘capitalist’ is a word that was made up by the socialists so that it sounded evil. Free market may be a better term with emphasis on ‘free’….ha.

agreed
I don’t get the response either. Solid in football and basketball. I guess if we are concerned about academics it will be taking in a lower school (I prefer Virginia Tech but that isn’t happening). Missouri would probably be choice #2 though it is going to screw up the divisions.
The ACC fired the first shot...
when they took in Syracuse and Pittsburgh from the Big East this weekend.
That brings the question…Are they anticipating someone raiding their conference and preparing on the front end, or are they actually expanding?

MIZZOU...
is the best of what is out there imho. Solid basketball program, started out ranked in football (which is more than several SEC programs can say), good academics. I shudder at the thought of WVU entering the SEC.
