Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Mutually Assured Destruction

This has been a crazy year for both us and LSU.

I think we both fielded teams that were the best that either program had seen in a long long time (maybe ever, in LSU's case). And somehow, we managed to cost each other immortality.

Bama's D this year will go down as one of the best ever, sure, but the team as a whole will forever be remembered (by non-bama fans) as the team that won the national championship after losing their conference and division.

On the other side of the coin, not even a full week ago, cfb fans everywhere were arguing that, following a win in the BCSCG, this LSU team would have to be crowned as one of the best teams ever assembled. Despite all of their accomplishments, that coronation will never take place now. Monday night Bama made sure of that.

So here we are, two fan bases with absurdly good teams that will never fully get their due, thanks to a perfect storm of timing, affiliation, and bum luck. At least we have a certain shiny trophy to assuage the knowledge of what could have been.

Roll Tide.

They get to hang that SEC Champ banner

That counts for something. And I’m sure once all the butt hurt wears off, the 2011 LSU Tigers will still be remembered as one of their best teams ever. They’ve only had a handful of undefeated regular seasons in their history.

No doubt they still have the championship.

But I think that the “best teams ever” tag will only be remembered by LSU fans. The rest of the country is going to put this team away forever.

Greatest regular season ever

2011 LSU. I won’t forget that any time soon. Nor should you, if you want to convince anybody else of how good Alabama was this year.

They'll be remembered about like the Patriots were a few years ago.

A great team that didn’t quite finish.

Misnamed movie.

That guy really did pretty much everything he could to AVOID fighting in that war. When someone killed his kid(s), he started killing people. That’s not patriotism – that’s nature.

Not that I don't see your point, but...

Many people in the Revolutionary era didn’t want a war, especially in the South. A lot of them came around to the idea when the British rolled through and started raping and pillaging. That aspect of the history was captured pretty well in that movie.

Even today, what I’ve heard of veterans from a mental standpoint is that they fight more for their families than for their country specifically. I’m not sure if that is typical of all people or an American concept of patriotism, but I think it’s patriotism either way.

No disrespect...

but Bama fans shouldn’t care about what non-bama fans think of this team & its place in history. The flaws in the " they didn’t even win their conference" argument are obvious & well stated on this blog.

After the beatdown we put on LSU, I don't think many will care about us not winning the conference.

Remeber all of the “this is a tainted championship” crap on account of McCoy getting hurt? Yea, whatever.

I think the "If only Colt hadn't gotten hurt" crap is a Texas thing and a joke amongst us.

To the rest of the nation, I’m sure they’re thinking that Colt’s ass got knocked out, fair and square.

Not to mention....

Texas beat OU by 3 points that year after Sam Bradford got taken out early in the game. Selective memory.
