University of Alabama assistant coach Sal Sunseri has been offered a position as the defensive coordinator at Tennessee and is expected to accept the offer, a source confirmed to Tidesports.com.

Sal Sunseri to be new DC at Tennessee

Will be interesting to see how this affects us going forward. In any case, coaching attrition is the price of success. Good luck to him.

Izzy Gould is now backtracking on it.

Never mind, that's Vinnie.

Izzy Gould is reporting

that it’s a done deal. Presser at 2:30 today.

WNML’s Jimmy Hyams reports via Twitter that Sunseri’s deal is worth $700,000 to $800,000 annually for 2 to 3 years.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the deal is worth $2.4 million over the course of three years.

Money/Guarantee

The money and the guarantee was the key. This is a huge step up relative to what he was making, and best of all its guaranteed. I think he will probably do well there, but Dooley does not have much time left.

Who knows maybe Alabama can hire him back if/when Smart leaves?

Biggest immediate impact

of this is that he is the guy recruiting Eddie Goldman….SS recruited for us very well in the north and has pulled some good recruits in for us…..we need someone on the staff that is familar with that area if we are still going to get athletes from there…..Koujandas, Depriest, Cyrus Jones and trying to pull Goldman…..

Great position coach and an even stronger recruiter.

this one is going to hurt on the recruiting front, but Congrats to Coach Sal.

He probably deserved the Pitt head job at least twice, but I’m sure the lack of Coordinator experience hurt him in the interview process.
It’s not personal, just buisness when Bama shreds your defense next year.

Congrats Coach Sal

I don't blame Pitt.

As you say, I couldn’t see hiring a position coach to be HC, especially at a “BCS” school.

God bless our Dark Lord.

This seems like one of those things

Where you can’t have two defensive co-ordinations on your staff, and Sunseri seemed ripe to get the upgrade given his success. Tennessee now might have the problem of replacing our linebacker’s coach Lance Thompson, as many think he deserves a shot at DC. Rumor is that he’ll look for a DC job elsewhere since we passed him over.

Anyways, I’d feel bad for you, but those rings probably feel a lot better than coaching insecurity ;-)

Random note-

Wondering how Alabama feels not being able to hire Boise State’s OC. Kinda embarrassing for a school that always puts down the Broncos. On the heels of winning a national title they still couldn’t convince Pease to come to Tuscaloosa. That’s rough.

Well, we don't know how seriously Saban was pursuing Pease.

Not that I would know, but Florida could have offered him more money or something such as that. Maybe he would have had more freedom to design the offense at Florida. You never know.
