The play in the Swamp on Oct. 1 ended like many others in Chapman's Crimson Tide career with one significant difference: days later during an MRI, he learned he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee.
"Normally I can deal with pain pretty well, but after three days I needed an MRI," Chapman said. "Dr. (Lyle) Cain said he's never seen a guy that can have a torn ACL and still stay that stable."
Chapman said he made the choice to finish the season, and to put off surgery. More than three months after the injury, he underwent the procedure Tuesday and is rehabilitating at Alabama.

And we thought Lane Bearden was tough. Hell, forget toughness, how is this even physiologically possible? I've never even heard of a 320+ pound nose guard even trying to do this, much less successfully doing so and being a major cog on arguably the best defense in modern college football history. A giant tip of the houndstooth fedora in Chapman's direction is clearly in order.

Wow!! I heard the interview Josh did
about how Coach Cochran worked with the guys to make the team both physically and mentally tough, but this is amazing.

While I'm sure there was much pain
a normal person can live without an ACL. As a NG he doesn’t have to do much lateral stuff, so I could see him getting by with a big old brace on it. Still though, most wouldn’t even attempt it.

Dont mean to be an ass, but the ACL is more for front to back stability.
MCL is more lateral stability, although when you are missing either ligament, stability in general can be compromised.

Either way.
Point is, I can see where a NG could do it with a brace. I’m sure it would hurt like hell though.

I'm sure the pain would've been terrible, but yeah I would think the instability could be controlled with a brace.
But I would be afraid that waiting that long to have surgery would cause scar tissue to form on the ends of the ligament that would make repair difficult. Hope not.
God bless our Dark Lord.
Wow!
Just wow! G. Gordon Liddy would be so proud!

DRAFT JC
Who ever picks JC is getting one HELL of a person and player. THANk YOU JC.!!!
i trained for and ran a marathon
with a torn patellar tendon and it was one of the most excruciating experiences in my life. it was like being stabbed in the knee with an ice pick every step i took. i’d finish workouts and half expected to see my lower leg covered in blood.
but to do what he did, for as long as he did with THAT kind of injury…. dear god.

I promised Lane Bearden if I ever met him I'd buy him a beer
I’m gonna have to extend the offer to Josh Chapman

I'd guess the NT is the toughest guy
on the team but this is beyond tough.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
Truly amazing.
His junior year he was statistically superior to Cody and this year started statistically superior. I wonder how he finished. Cody almost got into the first round after he lost weight. JC never got that big and was one of our strongest men in the weight room. But I think we will crowded for the first round. Besides, no Senior Bowl. Wonder what kind of shape he can be in for the Combine.

OK.
Now that I’ve actually read the article I have a better idea about his recovery timetable. Best of luck to him.

A Josh Chapman
playing on 2 legs? Yes, if I were a pro scout, I would highly consider the guy. He’s evidently a man’s man.
He may not be 40
But he’s a man.

unbelievable...
To think about playing through that AND training for that long – that’s truly amazing.

Talk about dedication...
I blew out my ACL in an auto accident. Front to back stability in the knee, like when you try to stop quickly, is lost. Heck, I remember standing in a buffet line for lunch and my medial meniscus popped out. And this guy played at such a high level? Words escape me. But Ill try: how about bass ass.
Proud mini-Saban.
I didn't realize that bass were known for their powerful behinds....
but if so, rock on Josh Chapman, you bass a**!!!

Jinkies, Bix....
I just got the above photo. When I looked at it the first time, I didn’t get it because I was still pronouncing “bass” with the short “a” vowel sound. You’re right, that reply is perfect!

[this is Les Claypool from Primus by the way!]
I, personally, have never seen this get-up from him despite attending more than 20 Primus shows in my lifetime. I have, however, seen him don the Old School Soldier outfit from time to time. This “Ram Horns” head-gear would have been awesome with a Cyrano de Bergerac-type nose, and Tarzan-type-genital-wrap, with fishnet stocking and dominatrix boots.
Just sayin’.

A perspective, in regards to Chapman's injury, surgery, and recovery. . . .
. . . .hat tip to Paragon, over at Conquest Chronicles.
I’m all outta superlatives for young Mr. Chapman. In light of Josh’s badassery, I’m left to wonder what he was thinking and all I can think of is this quote that I’ve found, (some fighter talking in some fighting movie i’ve never seen), “I came for bubblegum and kicking-ass. And. . . . . I’m all out of bubblegum.”
The dude simply kicks-serious-ass, is all.
