Outback Bowl Open Thread | #17 Michigan State vs #16 Georgia

Another year, another consolation trip to Florida for the Spartans while Wisconsin heads out west for the Rose Bowl. This year Michigan State has an even bigger bone to pick considering their narrow regular season victory over the Badgers was made completely irrelevant thanks to a rematch in the Big Ten Championship Game. College football is just so unfair, y'all. Boo hoo.
Anyway, Michigan State is seeking its first bowl victory of the Mark Dantonio era. Dantonio has coached the Spartans to their first back-to-back 10-win seasons, and for the fourth time in five seasons under him they will play a bowl game in Florida. Their last bowl win came at the expense of Fresno State in the 2001 Silicon Valley Classic.
After getting flat out embarrassed by our own beloved Tide in last year's Capital One Bowl the Spartans again face an SEC opponent this postseason, Eastern Division Champions Georgia. The Bulldogs fell 42-10 to LSU in the SEC championship game, ending a 10-game winning streak by allowing 42 unanswered points and finishing with season lows in points, rushing yards and total yards, while UGA QB Aaron Murray completed only 16 of 40 passes for 163 yards, one TD and two INTs, and they may have a tough time regrouping against a Spartan defense that finished fifth in the nation, allowing 272.7 yards per game.

At this point a year ago 'Bama had a 21-0 lead on MSU in the Capital One Bowl
Georgia, by contrast, leads 2-0. And that nicely sums up the difference between ’Bama and UGA.

Looks like Georgia will squeeze this one out
which is good for them. We need all SEC teams to beat the Big Ten.
Fumbles. It was always Fumbles
As bad as the SEC East was . . .
. . . they still would have competed for the Big 10 championship.
What a bunch of pussies!!!
Thirty seconds left in a meaningless bowl game, and neither coach wants to take a chance? You’re kidding.

Why risk it?
Michigan State needs a bowl win badly, no need to lose it on a risky 2 pointer. Georgia will probably be down emotionally…. just keep pressuring them on OT and see if they bend.

Losing yards on purpose to set up a 3rd-down 44-yarder for a 20-32 kicker
Wow, that is excessively brain-dead.
And by the way
My first post was before the kick was missed. I didn’t have to see the missed kick to know that was stupid.
Amen, that was absolutely ridiculous!
Even if you want to kick it on 3rd down, at least try to gain yardage on 2nd.
God bless our Dark Lord.
Not so rare if you are watching UGA & Richt.
But just wait come August all the UGA people will be saying they are going to win it all in 2012. They will probably be ranked top 10 too, though for the life of me I can not figure out why.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
They will probably be ranked top 10 too, though for the life of me I can not figure out why.
You seen their schedule for next year? They could go 12-0 and have zero wins over top 15 teams and perhaps only one win over a top 25 team. Even Shula would go 10-2 against that slate.

That's a pretty rare event, I think
Downing it behind the line for a long-ish field goal on 2nd down without a good kicker is a rare class of stupid, and not only that, but it instantly stopped his team from ending the game with a win; if they had gotten one yard on 2nd, 1 yard on 3rd, and then the guy kicked the exact same field goal, it would’ve been good and game over.
Unusually stupid + immediately cost the game = you don’t see that every day.
Hey, they shouldn't feel bad. Vandy lost theirs too. Lol.
And their play calling absolutely sucked when it counted. The Mark Richt effect continues.
And after the way we throttled MSU in last years bowl, it makes it even more laughable. Last years MSU team was better than this years as well.
