The Best Moments of the 2011 Season | Tournament Selection Thread
As some of you may recall, at the conclusion of the 2009 season we decided to select the best moment of the season via a 32 play tournament. Since getting to watch clips of the Tide doing awesome things every day for a couple of weeks was pretty fun then, it probably will be now! Of course, we'll need y'all's help in coming up with 32 moments cause we are old and our memory isn't what it used to be, so fire away in the comments (and link the relevant YouTube if you can) with your favorite memories from the 2011 season. And remember, they don't have to be actual plays on the field a la the Ingram/Saban chest bump, so put your thinking caps on and dig deep for this one folks. With that in mind, my first selection is...

May be the best punt return I've ever seen....
though David Palmer had a few that were incredible, and as far as intensity Javy’s against LSU in ’08 was pretty nice…
'07...
…and David Palmer’s against Colorado in ‘91 was in-freakin’-credible….

1. The Moment of Silence to open the season for April’s tornado victims, salute to the responders, and recognition of Aaron Douglas’s parents.
2. The Decision for AJ McCarron to play over Phillip Sims vs. PSU (and everyone else), one of the most critical choices that led to this year’s championship.
3. The Shutout, the first of the year, 41-0 vs. North Texas.
4. The Return: Marquis’s a-Maze-ing 83-yard TD return vs. the Hogs.
5. Swamped: The 38-3 domination of Florida after the Gators opened the game with a potentially season-changing opening TD pass.
6. Dores blown out: The second-half domination of a Vandy team that showed more pluck and grit this year than any SEC team not name the Tide.
7. The Juke.
8. Bombs away: The complete pwnership of UT after a sluggish first half.
[#] The best loss by any team in CFB this year.
9. The Mini-Juke: Trent humiliates one Bulldog on national TV as he continues to make the state of Mississippi very sad.
10. A Smelley Victory was had over Georgia Southern as absolutely nobody wanted to play DT for the Tide, but Brad Smelley made a very late push for the Heisman.
11. Hey Tigers! We Just Beat The Hell Outta You! 42-14, and it wasn’t nearly that close.
12. Zereaux. The most dominating performance by the most dominant defense in the history of college football. And the people said, “Amen!”
Bonuses: Carson Tinker’s acceptance of the Disney Spirit Award, the decisions by Barrett Jones and Robert Lester to return to Alabama, Coach Saban’s vocal appreciation and visible enjoyment of this year’s championship team.
Runners-up: Iowa State’s win vs. OSU, Oregon’s win vs. Stanford, USC’s win vs. Oregon, Baylor’s win over OU.

Basically, it was drawn up so that Williams would catch it or no one would. AJ trusted the coaches and fired it in there (rather than scrambling and trying to make something happen all gunslinger-y). Again, not the best play of the year by a mile but in my humble opinion a crucial one to our identity on offense.
