Good for him and Bama!

He was one of the few stars on the Redskins, and I was proud to say he was a Bama product. It’s a shame he didn’t play for an NFL team that was able to win it all. He was certainly deserving of the accolades and rewards that would have come with such an achievement. It’s great to see him come back to Bama and contribute to Bama’s winning tradition as a coach. And also that he is completing his education to obtain a degree. Way to go CCS! Welcome home. Roll Tide, Aight!

Wow...I love Chris Samuels.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

Awesome!

I hate that he had to hang them up when he did, but I gladly welcome him back to Tuscaloosa.

They got a name for the winners in the world...they call Alabama the Crimson Tide!

Called it

Way back when Danny Sheridan was talking of a former star NFL player joining the coaching staff, I said Chris Samuels-it made the most sense. Say yes I am patting my own back.

JTADPOLE WARNING: This appears to be a real, legit post from PKP. Proceed with caution.

Nice! Great to have Samuels back in T-town! I wonder if his HS OC position last year was unpaid due to him not having his degree? Isn’t that correct, that HS coaches have to have degrees?

God bless our Dark Lord.

High school coaches are paid if they work for the school system.

We had a few at Austin that didn’t teach at the school, but taught in the system somewhere. If you don’t work for the systems, you usually don’t get paid. As for my posts, I usually don’t post false articles. On the occasion I haven’t scrolled down far enough and re-posted something OTS did though.

CS

As a lifelong Redskin fan, CS is one of my favorites. The poor teams he played on may keep him from the Hall of Fame. I believe he should get in but time will tell. Roll Tide

BTW, this is kinda funny.
“They’ll pay for me to finish my degree,

Unless he’s done something dumb with his NFL money, I doubt the free tuition is that big of a consideration for him. LOL

Um....many NFL players

retire from football broke. Chris was a high draft pick but who knows what he did.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

Well, that would qualify under this:

Hopefully he hasn’t blown all his money.

Actually, after I thought about it some more,

this position at UA may be an unpaid position (like a GA). So in that context, his statement would make a little more sense. He’s saying that although it’s unpaid, he is receiving some type of compensation.

God bless our Dark Lord.

Most GA’s get paid. It’s not much but they also get free tuition. Plus their salary is usually tax free.

by Bumpjon on Jan 25, 2012 7:54 AM CST up reply actions

They do? OK.

I just remember that when Groh was a GA, they said he was unpaid.

God bless our Dark Lord.

That's Grohs.

If you’re a GA you’re a grad student. I’d think

most programs would give you a stipend and tuition waiver. But Samuels is not a GA. Yet, he still gets money.

My wife and I got to hang out with CS...

back in our T-town days. Hell of a good guy and I think he’ll do well.

I've talked to other people who were students around that time,

that ran into him socially. That’s everyone’s opinion, just a laid back, really good, freakishly-talented guy.

And I’d be surprised if he hasn’t managed his money. He was able to work for a year without pay in Mobile. The fact that he mentioned he’ll be paid to get his degree makes him look like a person who holds on to his dollars.

Roll Tide!!!

Samuels was a great player during a difficult time for Alabama. Then he succeeded at the NFL. Unlike, Andre Smith, he was a champion, not a bum.

LMAO!

A former Outland Trophy winner and multiple All-Pro will help coach Bama’s offensive line in ‘12.
An offensive line that already returns ’11’s Outland Trophy winner as well as most of the starters and which should be rated among the best in college football.
It just keeps getting better & better!

Right.

I thought only Head Coaches, coordinators, and position coaches could recruit. Only 10 guys can recruit, if I am not mistsken.

Chris Samuels saved my life

My one run-in with Chris Samuels- actually surprised I don’t tell this story more often; haven’t thought about it in years.

Anyway! The year after he finished at UA, he was back in town for a weekend and out for drinks with some of his old teammates.

One of the then-current starting offensive linemen (Name withheld- not going to badmouth a guy for being drunk and ornery, since that would make me a hypocrite) had a few too many, and somehow got the impression that I had insulted him by saying he had “soft hands”. Truthfully, I had never said a word to the guy in my life, so I had no idea what the hell he was talking about. All I knew was that there was a 6’4, 300+ lb guy shoving me and yelling at me.

I’m 5’8. 180ish back then.

I didn’t start the fight (I’m not that stupid), but I wasn’t going to back down (I absolutely AM that stupid).

Now, I can handle myself. I’m an old boxer, I was still in fighting shape back then, and I was no slouch in a fight. But I’m about 99.9% sure I was going to get my ass handed to me.

Before that could happen, CS stepped between us and told Big Steaky that he was being a dumbass and that he needed to calm down and let me go back to serving drinks. Once he was sure that his friend wasn’t going to turn me into goo, he turned to me, apologized for his friend, and explained that he just got a little angry when he drank. He then called a cab for his friend, paid his tab, and left me a very nice tip for my trouble.

Class act, all the way.

Like I said- I wouldn’t have backed down that night…but I’ll just say I’m very, very glad that Chris Samuels was in town.

I’m glad to have him back in town now too! if he can impart a shred of his talent to our line, we’re going to be in damn fine shape.
