Have you seen 2012 QB Alec Morris' stats???
Alabama looks to be signing one quarterback in the class of 2012 and he may be the sleeper hit of the year. Alec Morris played in the highest classification of Texas high school football (AAAAA at Allen High School outside of Dallas). He led his team to 11-1 his senior season and 10-2 his junior year.
Of his 17 rushing TDs, many of them were near the goal line. At 6'3" and 235 lbs, I can imagine he is hard to take down in the trenches.
As for his passing, by NCAA QB standards, his senior season rating would be a 175.63.

…six is nine flipped so that’s a plus. This is a good sign;this kid has great odds.

If most of those rushes are goal-line and short yardage attempts
that 3.5 YPC is pretty impressive, even if sacks aren’t included.

His HS coach
raised the question as to why the major scouting services aren’t giving him more attention. I also wonder why. He plays in Texas which has no shortage of great talent and he has impressive numbers. I admit, most anyone can look great in a highlight film, but he looks impressive. Anyone have more information on why this kid isnt highly sought after?
i live in allen
and i’ve watched this kid play in person a few times over the course of his jr and sr years. obviously he’s got all the numbers, and he certainly looks the part, so the best i can guess as to why he isn’t getting more attention is b/c they run something similar to a “mike leach” style offense, and i question how well his skills will translate to a pro style offense. however, that only makes it more confusing that some of the spread teams in college aren’t interested. i also think his arm strength is nothing more than average. all that said, i’ve seen very few staffs as good at talent evaluation as the one in question, so they obviously get the benefit of the doubt from me.

I think the arm strength is probably it.
To me the biggest plus is that he has won almost on a GMac level.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
He's a three star...
Hmm let’s see:
Dareus, Ingram, Mt Cody, Smelley-Cat were 3 stars in ’08, while Start Jackson and Burton Scott were 4 and 5 stars respectively.
So I’ll put my money on Saban and Co.’s recruiting skills vs. the recruitnick star count any day of the week.
Talent can only get you so far. Give me a player who has less talent, but the heart of a champion and the will to succeed.
Sorry - Typo on Start Jackson - maybe No-Start Jackson's a better fit.
Talent can only get you so far. Give me a player who has less talent, but the heart of a champion and the will to succeed.
I agree with you..
…However, the only schools (other than Bama) that offered were Wake Forest and North Texas. He isn’t highly sought after, unlike Ingram and Cody.
This being said, I trust Saban and his staff, however, I would just like to know what the perceived weaknesses are…
Greg McElroy was a 3 star....

Maybe
he’ll make some of the Kiel supporters not feel so disappointed that Kiel FINALLY decided where he wanted to go. But then again, there’s always tomorrow. I like Alec Morris and I think he has performed in a much more competitive environment tha Mr Kiel. I know I could be totally off, but, time will tell. IMHO.
Roll Tide, A’ight!
Have a Crimson Tide Day!
Roll Tide, Saban Tsunami Roll!
Not only has he played BIG TIME TEXAS FOOTBALL
where pressure and distractions abound, but he outperformed Kiel in camps where both attended.

I don't know if they were ever at the same camp
but ESPN does an Elite 11 camp for QBs and Kiel was less than impressive – did not make the final 11.
But still, Morris competed in what is probably the most competitive division of high school football anywhere vs. Kiel who played in little ol’ Indiana at the the AAAA level (top level is AAAAA) and lost to a three-loss team in the semi-finals 62-7.
Fourteen and counting
Not only that,
one of his highlight reels has him making field goals. :))

I don't know very much about throwing mechanics...
My concern stems more from the fact that none of his passes really have that zip on it. Every time he releases the ball, I find myself thinking, " Man that was in the air for a long time.

Kiel has just been annointed by my Notre Dumb neighbors/co-workers/etc up in these parts...
as the Christchild of this recruiting class. That’s right, I couldn’t make this up if I tried. They are roundly declaring their program as the following — my favorites of which are:
“A sleeping giant,”
“In the hunt for a BCS bowl now,”
“No more than 3 years away from a NCG run,”
“Proprietor of the nation’s best recruit – BAR NONE.”
As if actual gameday performances/failures weren’t enough to diffuse the unfounded euphoria that Irish fans seem to generate for themselves, now they have the fabled “Next Joe Montana.” UGA is always signing the “Next Herschell” and Notre Dame is always signing the “Next Montana,” I guess.
Because of Morris’s attitude, maturity, clarity of decision, level of prep competition and perceived work ethic, I’d take him anyday over someone of Kiel’s manic decision-making.

I tend to believe that no one confused
Perkins, Curry, Dubose or Shula with any level of greatness.
Stallings almost won 2 with us and I admittedly thought Fran was going to win some SEC Championships here.

I thought...
…Perkins would be a great coach…until that 5-6 season. Even then, I thought our teams in ’85 and ’86 had championship potential.
Bill Curry fooled a few folks…and he recruited well (waiting to hear from redundancy department).
Dubose…well…bless his heart.
I still refuse to speak negatively of Mike Shula, who served his University to the best of his ability… and made this possible.
Stallings was a very good coach.
And Fran should have 77-0 etched on his tombstone.

Looking back at Perkins and Curry's best Bama teams,
I’m not sure they really knew how to be Champions – best utilize the talent at hand. Some coaches have it and many don’t. On Dubose, I’ll never figure out that decision process…

Cowardice and ignorance...
…if you can call that a process.
I’m not sure either of the other two did, either, but I believe Perkins woulda figured it out had he decided to stay…not that we’ll ever know….

shows how much I know
When asked at work, who was the recruit in this class that will be a household name (that already isn’t one …ei Landon Collins or TJ Yeldon) I answered: Alec Morris. thought the kid has good arm strength (compared to Winston and just watching videos) easily has 35-40 yards throws. Seemed like a very quick release to buy an extra bit of time and has the size and mobility to avoid the Ryan Mallet effect.
