I’m pulling for Clemson in spite of Dabo.

Clemson has good Bama connections and the guys at STS are passionate and insightful about college football. But Dabo needs to get his head out of his ass or he’s another DuBose or Shula.

Read STS.

They’re happy about a lot of things this season. But they’re angry, too. They have legitimate issues with Dabo as a head coach.

I'll take your word for it

Didn’t really realize he had issues, certainly not of the Debose and Shula like.

by d12 on Jan 4, 2012 7:38 PM CST up reply actions

The comparison to our two coaches is mine, not STS’.

Their problems with Dabo is that he is soft. The conditioning program is weak, they don’t have physical practices, have their starters practice against each other enough, focus on fundamentals, overall the O line is underachieving, their defense is terrible at tackling. They recruit well and have excellent schemes, but the defensive scheme may be too complex for their players. Plus they have Danny Pearman.

So, my guess is if Dabo has only this season to how for on his resume, he’ll wind up like DuBose and Shula.

So do we tackle to the ground

in spring training, A Game, fall camp, scrimmages, but not for regular season and bowl preparation?

as I understand it, this is correct

which is why its so amazing that the technique is so good. Considering how many injuries occur as the tackle goes to the ground, this makes sense though.

A little shocked at the score

but that is the way ot has been with Clemson…hot or cold. Had they gone in for that score before the fumble they’d be leading now as it is the game is basically over.

But, Clemson is not firing Dabo just yet. After all he did win the ACC. However, at some point if they really want a shot at the NC they will need to get more physical and learn to play D. Not sure they will do that under Dabo.

But, I do like Dabo. Liked him as a player and as a person. Probably going to make a real fine AD some day.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

If this bowl season has taught me anything

its that this spread bullshit has its days numbered. The people that don’t get it will continue to run it, but people in the know are doing their best to get away from it as soon as possible. You simply can’t play consistent championship caliber football running this garbage. To put it mildly, the same thing that’s won has always won. More specifically, ball control offense, and suffocating defense is what wins. This spread bullshit only beats other spread teams.

People always said that about the wishbone during bowl games.

When teams had a month to prepare for it it was tougher to dominate; even for us. If you got far behind – forget about it.

OU and Texas have a longstanding rivalry...

but have not traditionally been in the same conference. They were both in the Southwest Conference from 1915-1919, when Oklahoma left for the Big 8. They weren’t in the same conference again until the Big 12 formed in 1996, and have remained together since.

So, roughly 24 years in the same conference (currently 15), and 77 in different conferences.

Not with Mack Brown at the helm

Texas has top 5 recruiting classes almost every year since his arrival and 1 NC to show for it, and that game was not a result of coaching but VY taking the team on his back. MB can recruit but not develop talent.

I could see him being scapegoated

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 10:31 PM CST up reply actions

again, playing this bullshit chip kelly style of offense

where you hold the ball for 46 seconds a possesion skews the reality in my eyes.

by BamaThrasher on Jan 4, 2012 10:33 PM CST up reply actions

I hear ya,

but just watching this defense tonight is painful and it’s not due to the offense early in the 1st and 2nd qtr before they should ever be tired. Poor tackling and fundamentals seems to be an understatement. Only Ole Miss looked worse in the SEC than this to me (granted I didn’t watch teams Bama didn’t play).

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 10:37 PM CST up reply actions

can't disagree with anything you are saying

outside of the fact that tonight they are also playing a team that does the exact same thing they do. Unfortunately, this evening, the team they are playing does it better, at least tonight. When you play a football game with close to 15 possesions a game, if you play poorly, and turn the ball over for scores, its easy to give up 50+. This is what non SEC fans don’t get, against an SEC squad, you will get roughly 8 to 9 possesions a game. That to me is why playing this style of football will never beat us.

by BamaThrasher on Jan 4, 2012 10:42 PM CST up reply actions

absolutely agree on the # of possesions

it’s amazing how others don’t seem to get this.

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

Isn't this the kind of offense that the Auburnite ran last year?

And I really can’t remember, but what kind of offense did Utah run in 2008? And seems Florida ran this offense pretty well for a while, but yeah, Tebow.

Thirteen.

by Darth Saban on Jan 4, 2012 10:49 PM CST up reply actions

Big difference

they all did it with an emphasis on chewing clock, not getting a play off every 8 seconds. From memory, against Oregon last year, I think the Ducks only got 9 possesions.

by BamaThrasher on Jan 4, 2012 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

yep,

and it took an amazing game by Tebow in 08 to win. Couldn’t do it in 09 as the talent improved at Bama and experience was gained. AU was just plain lucky last year. Baron isn’t injured, that doesn’t happen. Utah, well, not much to say there. We didn’t show up and they did.

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 10:51 PM CST up reply actions

BTW, I'm not saying they should fire him,

just speculating that may happen. I think he should have 1 more year to fix this. If tackling and fundamentals are still this bad next year, then fire him.

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 10:58 PM CST up reply actions

on the flip side

I would contend that while the fundamentals have been bad, without question, without a conversion to a ball control offense, it won’t matter.

by BamaThrasher on Jan 4, 2012 10:59 PM CST up reply actions

maybe not at a championship level,

but it would matter in a game like this as they would not be embarrassed by letting them put up 70 pts.

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 11:03 PM CST up reply actions

my point is

that even if you had a bad game, like tonight, you would have at most given up 40 some odd points because you would have killed the clock.

by BamaThrasher on Jan 4, 2012 11:04 PM CST up reply actions

yes, but my point is

with a good defense your offense might cost you a td or 2 and then the defense gives up 2 or 3 and you end up giving up 35 pts total regardless of your offense. So you lose 35-26 in this game on a bad day. Throw in a ball control offense and you win (I agree with you), but just put a decent defense on the field and it changes this game even with the current offense.

by Bama_95 on Jan 4, 2012 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

I think we can agree

with the style we play, even if you play like shit, you might have an outside shot at winning in the fourth quarter. Playing this style, you have zero chance.

by BamaThrasher on Jan 4, 2012 11:09 PM CST up reply actions

And they do have a lot of eye candy. But, alas, no Mr. Sparkle.

I've always heard american actors will do commercials over there that they wouldn't dare do here.

I think Woody Allen did once for a grocery chain in the 80’s.

Bruce Willis is doing commercials now.

Earlier it was Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz. Jean Reno is popular.

I was thinking about making a trip to TTown for the game (Can't afford tics)

Is the University going to play the game in the stadium or on the quad? Any events a must see on campus?

Don't think so.

If so, it’s been a while. Seems Nebraska came pretty close against Florida one year in the ’90s.

Not sure there’s any such thing as major bowl games

I LOVE THE ASTROS. Now lets win something!

Haha,

I was referring to the current BCS bowls + Cotton. I consider most of the others to be minor bowl games now. Granted that only covers the last 20 years or so.

I’m a Texas alum. FF’s rep was that she was training equipment for the football team. Really bad reputation. Half-life infinite.
