BCS Championship Game Day Open Thread

We're aware you only slept seven minutes last night and you got out of bed this morning feeling like you could body slam a nine-story building, so pace yourself throughout the day. While we wait, chime in here with all of your game day thoughts and comments. Any news that breaks between now and then will also be posted here.

Finally, the actual game thread should go up sometime tonight around 7:00. As long-time readers know, the commenting threads at SB Nation tend to blow up around 1,000 comments, so once we reach that point tonight -- whenever that is -- we will post new game threads as the situation warrants. Be on the lookout for those if you start having site issues when the comment count gets high.

By the way

since I’m sure we will have a lot of game thread traffic tonight, let’s reiterate the “first comment” rule.

Very simply, whoever happens to be the first one to comment on any of the game threads, must type exactly two words- ROLL TIDE." Punctuation is discretionary at that point, but there should be absolutely no additional verbal pollution in that comment box. If you have something you’d like to say after that, create another comment. That is all.

May be a record number of posts since I am not a regular poster, but felt the need. AVTS has a massive amount of butt-hurt already. Their 1 to 50 ratio of posters compared to RBR (that’s being generous) didn’t think Bama deserved the spot in the championship. I did see one guy that had a clue by defending the Tide and SEC. The rest are scared out of their minds and reaching for reasons to hate Bama. Lets add to that number tonight!

Here in Kandahar, Afghanistan my Commander, Executive Officer, Operations Officer, one Battle NCO and countless others are supporting LSU against myself and about 2 others. My Ops Officer even went out of his way to buy t-shirts for other LSU “fans” to buy their allegiance. I need the support of the Bama Nation to extend to the farthest reaches of the earth tonight and this is no joke. 5 November was absolutely terrible and I don’t want to experience that ten-fold. So wherever you are, no matter if you are alone or at the game, get LOUD and let’s bring home 14.

Slept like a baby. I feel very good about our chances tonight. Regardless of what the betting classes in Vegas think, psychologically we are the underdogs with the most to prove and that is exactly where we need to be. More Coach Bryant quotes:
“What are you doing here? Tell me why you are here. If you are not here to win a national championship, you’re in the wrong place. You boys are special. I don’t want my players to be like other students. I want special people. You can learn a lot on the football field that isn’t taught in the home, the church, or the classroom. There are going to be days when you think you’ve got no more to give and then you’re going to give plenty more. You are going to have pride and class. You are going to be very special. You are going to win the national championship for Alabama.”

Sounds like some fun could be had

In high school, our coach made us dress up before games. (Basketball and Soccer both did this). We had to wear a button up shirt and a tie.

So before the biggest game of the season (Home game with Central H.S.), I wore cut-off khakis, a blue Hawaiian shirt I took from my dad’s closet, and a blue wide polyester tie. Yes, I did look ridiculous, but it fit the letter of the rule and achieved my objective: to stand out so people would ask so I could drum up some support and get people to the game.

I think Bama chose the right movie to watch:
Taking a break from game film to watch an inspirational movie can help get a football player’s mind right before hitting the gridiron the next day.

ESPN reported today that Alabama and LSU each caught early screenings of movies last night, that have yet to be released in theaters.

LSU watched the new Mark Wahlberg action vehicle “Contraband,” due in theaters this Friday. The film is about a former smuggler (Wahlberg) who heads to Panama to score millions of dollars in counterfeit bills to protect his family. Of course, things get messy with some shady individuals, and Marky Mark has to bust some caps in fools.

ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi said Alabama went the more inspirational route with the new Tuskegee Airmen film “Red Tails,” produced by “Star Wars” Sith Lord George Lucas.

The film tells the harrowing story of the first African-American pilots to fly combat missions during World War II, despite opposition from prejudice and other wartime conflicts.
