2013, 2014 Schedules Starting To Take Shape

Today the SEC announced the 2013 conference football schedule.

Alabama will play Kentucky to go with Tennessee and the rest of the SEC West in 2013. That should make the haters happy.

With Virginia Tech, Georgia State, and Chattanooga (tentative) slated for non-conference play, that leaves one more non-conference foe and a bye week to schedule for 2013. It appears that Alabama will have TWO bye weeks.

Aug 31: Virginia Tech
Sept. 7: TBA - non-conference or bye
Sept. 14: at Texas A&M
Sept. 21: TBA - non-conference or bye
Sept. 28: Ole Miss
Oct. 5: Georgia State
Oct. 12: at Kentucky
Oct. 19: Arkansas
Oct. 26: Tennessee
Nov. 2: TBA - non-conference or bye
Nov. 9: LSU
Nov. 16: at Mississippi State
Nov. 23 Chattanooga
Nov. 30: at Auburn

In 2014, the Tide returns to Atlanta to play West Virginia. Bama fans will also get the great pleasure of seeing encore games from FAU and Western Carolina in Tuscaloosa. The FAU game will be the week after the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. The WCU game will be the week before the Iron Bowl.

At the SEC spring meetings in June, the league adopted a 6-1-1 format for the foreseeable future. Teams play all six divisional opponents, one permanent cross-division team and one rotating cross-division opponent.

That format was done largely to protect the annual Alabama-Tennessee and Auburn-Georgia games. Arkansas-Missouri and South Carolina-Texas A&M were added as permanent rivalry games, joining LSU-Florida, Mississippi State-Kentucky and Ole Miss-Vanderbilt.
