Bama Fans:
I did some charts showing the side-by-side passing statistics of all 18 SEC quarterbacks with more than 50 passing attempts (had to draw the line somewhere). Note that the "per game" stats only count games in which the player played at least one play.
So, without further ado…

If that’s what the national media likes to deride as a "game manager," then sign me up. From what I can see, AJ appears to be making better use of his passing attempts than any other QB in the conference, and the only thing separating him from the Heisman-hype is volume. However, unless you are transparently chasing individual awards, I imagine most Bama fans would agree that it’s difficult to justify more passing attempts from our starting quarterback when we are already beating our opponents by an average of 33 points per game…
So, let’s now look at the top 15 in the country in each of completion %, yards per attempt and passer efficiency rating:

Why does the news media think Barkley should win the Heisman again?
*EDIT - I'm getting some confusing results. As always, all stats here taken from www.cfbstats.com. I'm curious, however, why Maxwell Smith from Kentucky has a completion % very comparable to AJ's, but is nowhere to be found on the list of national completion %. I don't mean that he's not in the top 15 (because he's not), I mean he's not listed at all, and he really ought to be. At I'm not sure why (he's completed 68.7% of his 150 pass attempts), but that website appears to just disappear some people from some of the lists for some reason, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
