Random Thoughts from Around the Country

Don't you love this time of year? The weather gets cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and the football gods correct the wrongs.

Ohio: The MAC team that jumped all over an emotionally drained Penn State team back on September 1, had dreams of an undefeated season until they ran into the 4-4 juggernaut Miami (OH). Buh-bye.

Rutgers: A win over Arkansas put stars in the eyes of the Scarlet Knights until they ran into the Fighting Sabans of Kent State. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.

Oregon State: Well, the other shoe finally dropped as the Beavers succumbed to the wiles of 4-4 Washington. Thanks for playing.

Florida: and Georgia were very generous in sharing the ball with each other but numbers don't lie – Fla turnovers 6, UGA 3. CHOMP!

Mississippi State: Alabama State Champions? Ph-shaw!

Kent State: speaking of the Golden Flashes, they are 7-1 and most likely headed to their third-ever bowl game and first since Nick Saban, Jack Lambert, and Gary Pinkel played in the 1972 Tangerine Bowl.

Notre Dame: I know this is painful and it brings me no pleasure in writing this but it is time to take the Dames seriously. They have survived the heart of their schedule with a tough defense, a just-good-enough offense, and perhaps a charitable goal-line call. Cupcakes Pitt, Boston College, and Wake Forest await. The hope of all that is good lies in the hands of d-bag Lane Kiffin on November 24th. Maybe Matt Barkley will get pumped up for a final Heisman drive?

The ACC: Do you want parity? Do you crave mediocrity? Then do we have a conference for you:

Ga Tech beat BC

BC beat Maryland

Maryland beat Wake

Wake beat UNC

UNC beat Va Tech

Va Tech beat Duke

Duke beat UNC

UNC beat NC State

NC State beat FSU

FSU beat Clemson

Clemson beat Ga Tech

(*Virginia is 0-4 in conference play)
