Sorry, but if the SEC Championship Game had been a blow-out (for either team), the loser probably deserves the Capital One bowl. But not in this year's classic game. This, in my opinion, was the absolute best SEC CG ever (and I've watched all 21 of them). Both teams deserve a BCS slot, but Florida (who Georgia defeated, even if it was ugly as hell and Florida killed themselves) will get into the BCS over Georgia by staying home during the SEC CG.
And that's one of the biggest faults with the BCS. Allowing only 2 teams from any conference to have only 2 of the 10 BCS slots (unless two non-division winners from the same conference finish #1 and 2, allowing the conference champ to get the tie-in BCS bowl) is bad enough, and I hope the new playoff system will eliminate that (even if it means 5 B1G teams and 5 Pac-12 teams in the future). But it's even worse to tell Georgia that they gave it a good run, but came up 4 yards short against a team and program that many folks (even non-bammers like us) believe at this time is the best of the best......the best team with the best coach leading the best program in the best division of the best conference.
Georgia lost to an Alabama team that is 1 win away from being a certified dynasty......and only barely lost it. As much as I love the meltdown thread every Tuesday, I would feel empathy with any of their fans, and not sure I would even want to read that section of it.
Maybe it's my absolute hate of Florida and my respect for Mark Richt as a person. Maybe it's my hate of any team with orange in their colors and my preference for teams with shades of red in theirs.
But at the end of the day, it's simply the fact that Georgia has proven to be the second best team in the SEC (regardless of that ugly USCe loss earlier in the season) based on how they've finished the season. Georgia beat the Gators, and in this SEC CG, as Mark Richt said (and I actually agree with him on this), "The clock simply ran out" against a team that is on schedule to become a modern-day dynasty.
They've gained my respect and should have a BCS slot........based on the results on the field this season (including this game).
