Recruiting - Looking at who went where - by State
Experiencing relatively little drama during NSD, Bama hauls in an impressive class. Based on some of the comments flying back and forth, I took some time to look at the top prospects by state and which SEC schools they chose. Since FSU has been in our backyard, I included them to see how they performed.
Here's a breakdown by state for the top 25 and top 5 recruits for GA, LA, FL, AL, TN and MS:
Source was 247 Sports.
Top 25 from each state
State: AL | GA | FL | LA | MS | TN
Aubie 5 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1
Arky 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1
BAMA 8* | 5 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 1 *Philon is up in the air - we possibly had to offer a greyshirt
FSU 2* | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 *Winston has yet to sign
Gators 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0
GDogs 0 | 5 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1
LSU 1 | 1 | 0 | 13 | 1 | 0
MS St 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 11 | 1
SCAR 0 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0
TA&M 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0
Vandy 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 6
Vols 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 2
Here's where it gets interesting when going for star pt avgs on recruiting boards.
Top 5 from each state (so these numbers would be inclusive of the numbers above).
State: AL | GA | FL | LA | MS | TN
Aubie 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1
Arky 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0
BAMA 3 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0
FSU 2* | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0
Gators 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0
GDogs 0 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1
LSU 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0
Miss St 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0
SCAR 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0
TA&M 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0
Vandy 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 6
Vols 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1
The Vols got thumped by getting outrecruited by Vandy in the top 25 and only pulling 1 top 5 recruit in their home state.
Aubie missed on the bigger in-state talent and we took the GA boys.
LSU pulled the best in state but lost out on their top tier talent with Bama poaching 2 of their top 5.
Despite appearances, the GA bulldogs still pulled 3 of their top 5 in state recruits. Georgia was fertile cruitin' grounds this year.
Miss St dominated in state but the talent wasn't that great.

Vandy really could move ahead of UT
in all areas except attendance. UT is in as much trouble as any team in the SEC.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
They'll be able to chuck it next year.
Got the Patterson juco kid to go with Da’Rick.

Vandy got 6 out of the top 5 recruits from the state of Tennessee.
That is impressive Vandy math.

I thought some smartass in these parts said "you'd be teh smokin' crackz if you think Vandy passes UT hurhur," or words to that effect.
I believed it then and I don’t see how anyone doesn’t see the warning signs now. Franklin is an excellent coach and has now cemented his recruiting credentials.
Didn’t everyone else here think Sunseri would help them a bit more with this recruiting class?
PS: It’s nothing personal Sunseri — I hate EVERYTHING orange.

I checked out the Vols class...
And they had to pull from a lot of states while Vandy did well in state.

I thought they usually focus on out of state.
Strange for a state where everyone walks around barefooted and marries their cousin, where a virgin is a girl who can run faster than her brother.

UPDATE:
The top five for TN was incorrect with the numbers display. It is accurate by 247sports acct that the Vols only pulled on top 5 recruit in state.
Also, these vary depending on which recruiting service you look at. 247 has Kwon as a top 6 in-state prospect whereas other recruiting sites may have him listed as 4th best.
It is significant that FSU came into our back yard and got 2 of the top 5 for our recruits. I hope this isn’t a trend.
With Kwon, I really think it was a combination of his size plus the recruits who had already committed for LB.

Typo in post above - ...the Vols only pulled one (1) top 5 recruit in state.

Yes - but you can't edit your comments, right?
See first line in my UPDATE comment…Vols only pulled on top 5 – Should read one top 5.

Tennessee's one recuit
Goes to church with me. I’ll say this. He is one of the nicest guys I know.
I told him I hope he plays well, but it would be tough for me to be a UT fan since I’m from Tuscaloosa. He laughed.
I hope he has an outstanding career...
