New addition to Arkansas signing class: DT Darius Philon, who was an Alabama commitment.
Hate to hear he turned down the greyshirt, but we knew this was a possibility earlier in the day. Either way, best of luck to him in Fayetteville.

I think I'd have preferred to lose him to Auburn.
He might have a realistic chance of hurting us at Arkansas.
I agree
Arkansas wasn’t in as bad a need. I almost feel bad for Auburn. They had a great day today though. Better than expected.

They were...
…for this class. Only MSU, Ole Miss, and Kentucky had worse classes than Arky….

I wish him success
except when Arky plays Bama.

This is so bizarre...
…how we lose this guy and Kwon ‘cause we don’t have room, but we’re all like, “Yeah, we’ve got another (yawn) #1 class, though….”

thank you 25 scholly limit!!!
Talent can only get you so far. Give me a player who has less talent, but the heart of a champion and the will to succeed.

Aight now, enough.

Feel bad for him
Feel bad for the kid, especially after watching the press conference at his school. He was Bama through and through.Hate missing out on a Bama boy. I realize he could have taken the greyshirt if he wanted it but he obviously didn’t feel that was in his best interest.
Same thing with Kwon.
Can't blame him
Good luck to him. On the upside we did sign a few good DT prospects.

So we have a 25 scholly limit
but the big 12 does not? I had read that the big 12 is just as guilty as the SEC is of ’’oversigning"

neither does the ACC

But that will change next year.
The 25 rule goes national next year. Thank God.
God bless our Dark Lord.
I would be more thankful...
…if the 30 rule went national next year, but I get your point….

Big news
to me is that apparently Auburn and Florida joined some Big Ten schools with granting 4 year scholarships.
If Auburn and Florida want to emulate
the Big Ten schools, I applaud their decisions.

So now they are going to start losing to ALL the SEC schools they play?

What happened to Philon stinks
No, he was not fully informed all along. Not from what I hear anyway. We dumped his ass late in the cycle because we wanted to add one more 4-star DL.
I have posted this elsewhere and it's probably not an excuse most will accept
but Philon is scheduled to have knee surgery for a torn meniscus. Recovery tends to take several months to completely rehabilitate a knee – especially for someone who is as heavy as he is.
He was probably going to redshirt 2012 at Bama anyway. I’d be surprised if he sees the field at Arkansas but best of luck to him.
Fourteen and counting
I don't blame the kid for being upset . . .
. . . but welcome to the real world of big-time, college football. And even though it’s a tough blow for a 17-year-old who really wanted to go to Bama, he could have enrolled at Bama in January of 2013 instead of August 2012. Six months seems like a relatively small trade off for a major knee injury.
All I care about
Were we honest to him? Was he surprised? Because the University is the world of sophisticated managers and professionals, and he’s a high-school kid. We need to make sure he’s not surprised, not leave it up to him to take care of himself.
If we were straight up with him, and he guessed wrong and got disappointed, that’s on him. I haven’t heard enough facts to really know what happened, but at this point that’s not the story I’m hearing.
Philon was aware
Darius knew in December that his offer was a grayshirt offer and he was actually happy about it. He knew where he stood in the pecking order and I now assume that he thought events would leave him with a current scholarship. Events did not unfold that way. But rather than wait 5 months, even though injured, he preferred to take the offer from Ark. I wish him the best.
Btw, his coach even acknowledges that “everyone knew”.
In general the AJC and the Alabama media waits like vultures for any pretext by which they might disparage Bama/Saban. UGA and AU are getting killed and they will nip at Bama’s heels anytime they can. They contort the truth in such ways that Bama fans often fall for their garbage rather than giving their coach the benefit of the doubt.

The
media is butthurt over the fact that Alabama won’t release their scholly numbers. I think the backlash is building.
