He spoke indirectly about Taylor and Philon. He seemed to be saying that a gray shirt to Bama was in the best interest of these players and very indirectly implied that neither dealt with the situation in a mature manner. I wish he could have said more about their specific situations.

They obviously both felt that they could be ready to play by the fall. And you don’t want to discourage that sort of enthusiasm. At the same time, it is very unrealistic to think that they would be contributing in games in the fall. The gray shirt is not a bad deal. I think that they can sign a letter of intent today to enroll in January. I know it seems like a lifetime to a 17-year old but it’s only 11 months away and only 5 months later than reporting in August.

Also, only a few guys wait till August to report anymore.
Most come to campus in June at the latest. So it’s a 7 month difference.

I'm not a big fan of this sentiment.
I’ve watched the video of Philon and you can’t help but feel bad for the guy.
It’s really easy for a fan to sit back and say, “tough shit. you knew the breaks.” But we are talking about kids lives. We don’t know when he was told, but even if he was told 2 weeks ago, it wasn’t a solid gray shirt situation. All the cards would have to fall against him for that to happen. In the over-optimistic mind of an 18 year old that grew up a Bama fan and seemed to have everything falling into place, that possibility might have seemed remote.
I don’t begrudge him his reaction one bit, and I hope the best for him in Arky.

…but I also don’t begrudge CNS for how he handled the situation. It just highlights the poor decision-making in the SEC office on this one.
