funny point

my dad called, and said he remembered a game in the 70s in which Alabama finished the game with four on the floor, and won. Apparently there were several injuries, and suspension or two, and 3 or 4 guys fouled out. Now for the kicker, the opponent that night – LSU.

I find the hatefulness and ignorance of your comment disgusting. If you spent thirty minutes volunteering with or even talking to people with special needs you’d be pretty disgusted at your comment, too. I’m sure you’re not really a hateful person and meant that in a joking way, but you need to be made aware how statements like that come off.

by the thin red line on Feb 11, 2012 7:09 PM CST up reply actions

Disagree.

It’s not so much the actual words to me as the delivery. In the OT there was actually some chemistry between the characters on screen. Everything in the new ones felt unnatural and poorly delivered.

by TiderInTN on Feb 11, 2012 7:15 PM CST up reply actions

You’re right about the chemistry.

But that is because of the characters themselves, not the actors and script, I believe. Notice Yoda Kenobi allows Luke and Leia to have normal lives before training.

If you can access a copy of the ROTS script, check out towards the end, when Qui Gon tells a very contrite and despairing Yoda of the importance of love.

The prequel universe was beautiful, but sterile.

Robot Chicken Star Wars should be canon.

by the thin red line on Feb 11, 2012 7:25 PM CST up reply actions

Don't get me wrong, I love the mythos.

I’m talking solely about the on-screen presentation differences between the OT and the NT characters. I’ve seen the aforementioned actor and actress in many other films and I know they can deliver lines that don’t feel two-dimensional. I wish Lucas had allowed them to in the prequels.

by TiderInTN on Feb 11, 2012 7:31 PM CST up reply actions

I know.

But again, I feel this is because the characters were designed that way. The onscreen performances express their characters’ lack of real humanity. Amidala at first is makeup and costume. Their society is too formalized. The universes of THX-1138 and the Prequels do not consist of more flesh and blood characters that American Graffiti and the Original Trilogy consist of.

Btw, what did you think of the performances of Frank Oz, Ian McDiarmid, and Christopher Lee?

by the thin red line on Feb 11, 2012 8:52 PM CST up reply actions

I feel like...

they did what was asked of them. They weren’t home-runs and in all honesty I don’t know McDiarmid’s other roles so it’s hard to compare.

I think Lee is uniquely positioned to show the lack of quality in the acting of the prequels. Look at his roles in the LOTR trilogy and compare them to his roles in the prequels – amazingly similar characters (right-hand men of the main antagonist). Granted, as wordsmiths go, it’s a bit unfair to stack Lucas up against Tolkein. But, we’re talking about how the source material translates to the movies. The difference in the quality of those performances is night and day to me.

Of course, that’s just my take on it. One thing that did puzzle me a bit in the prequels is how the Jedi couldn’t see that for Anakin to bring balance to the force it would require there being equal numbers of Sith and Jedi. For balance there would either have to be just 2 Jedi left or the number of Sith would have to increase to match the Jedi.

Not at all embarrased to watch this team tonight.

Really all things considered a very good effort. Winning on the road is always tough. Even with our starters I figured we were no better than 50-50 to win.

Who knows what the future holds but if these guys get back I think we can still make the tourney.

By the way, Rodney Cooper looked tonight like who I thought he would be when he signed. Too bad it took this for us to find out what we have in him. Lacey must be injured. He finally did hit a 3 but even tonight he was not much.

Still, no moral victory. We could have won this game if we had done ANYTHING in the 1st half.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

Interested to see Grant's press conference.

Hoping he praises the efforts of the guys that got to play tonight; they were overmatched and they couldn’t do much more than they did. Most of us didn’t even expect that much out of them. Hoping also that he completely bashes the guys who left their teammates out to dry by screwing around and having to get sent home.
