Alabama Basketball Recruiting Class of 2012

Stay connected for news and updates

The college basketball 2012 signing period began back in November 2011. As of now Coach Anthony Grant has not signed anybody for the incoming class.

The Crimson Tide graduates JaMychal Green and uncertainties swirl as to whether Tony Mitchell returns. It unclear at this time whether there will be one or two spots open and only time will tell.

It is very possible that Grant has his eye on some junior college and/or international players. That is hard to track. However, as for U.S. high school seniors, there are four guys on Grant's radar that I know of:

Devonta Pollard F, 6'7"/190, Porterville, MS 5-star

Rivals ranks him as the #2 forward and #9 overall player. Getting him would be quite a coup. Pollard would be a perfect replacement for JaMychal Green but he also has offers from Georgetown, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri & Texas. The McDonald's All-American is the real deal averaging 24 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocks a game. BTW, His hometown is about the same distance (70 miles) to Tuscaloosa as it is to Starkville. Can Grant steal another one from the Evil Empires to the North (Georgetown, Kentucky)? Is the NBA draft on his mind at all?

DeVon Walker G, 6'6"/187, Winter Haven, FL 3-star

Rivals has him as the #33 shooting guard and #149 overall. Walker made an official visit on 2/18/12 and saw the Alabama 62-50 thrashing of Tennessee. Along with Bama, his finalists appear to be Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Kansas State, Miami (FL), UCF. The Tide seems kinda stacked at this position but who am I to doubt Grant? B)

Jaylen Beckham PG, 6'0"/150, Lexington, KY 3-star

Unranked by Rivals (they only rank the Top 150), he would be a good back-up to rising junior Trevor Releford at point guard. Ben Eblen will be a senior (thank God). There is certainly value in learning behind these two for a year or two. No offer from hometown Kentucky. Other offers include DePaul, Seton Hall, Texas A&M & Washington.

Marcel White F, 6'5"/200, Lake Wales, FL 3-star

Also unranked. Lake Wales is the #2 ranked team in Florida, #44 in the nation. Some offers alphabetically include Charleston, Florida State, James Madison, Oregon State, Providence, Richmond & Washington. From Rivals:

White is a bouncy athlete with a lean but strong frame and he likes to attack. His jumper doesn't look bad and he will rebound as well.
