Alabama forward Tony Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the men's basketball team, a school spokesman announced Monday.
There is no timetable for Mitchell's return, the spokesman said.
The junior is averaging 13.1 points and 7 rebounds in 21 games played.
Alabama coach Anthony Grant said the decision was made after Saturday's 69-67 double overtime win over Ole Miss at Coleman Coliseum.
Grant said Mitchell's suspension was an "accumulation of things." He did not elaborate further.

I am surprised by how not surprised I am. Also, back to back road games at LSU and Auburn coming up! Excellent timing.

conduct detrimental to the men’s basketball team
My completely uneducated guess says no, that it’s more likely an attitude problem. Given that these rumors came up last week and he did NOT start on Saturday, this problem is not news but is also not something as clear cut as weed.
i.e. if it was weed and it came up last week, he would not have played on Saturday. And if it was weed and just came up today, then it doesn’t explain why he didn’t start Saturday.
God bless our Dark Lord.
Probably is attitude...
Green had to sit for that last season if I remember correctly. Grant isn’t afraid to bench a guy for pouting too much.
Fumbles. It was always Fumbles
And you know what?
Good things happened after Green sat. Chemistry was better, leadership was better, and the team turned around. Maybe good things will happen after this, too.

Hopefully
I was at the game Saturday night with a good view of the bench, and in addition to a lack of playing chemistry, I was struck by what appeared to be a lack of excitement, encouragement, and enthusiasm among most of the players. This with two overtimes and a pretty good crowd. Releford was an exception to this to me in that he seemed to give it his all and be supportive of everyone else, too. I hope things improve, and the rest of the team is able to develop positive attitudes for the remainder of the season.
not what it looked like on tv, to be honest.

I think Hankerson and Steele
also were into the game. Green gave a good effort in the 2nd.
Some of the others did seem a little unconcerned about the situation.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
I was there, too, and I agree with you.
Releford and Steele are the heart of this team right now. Mitchell and Green are ocasionally the hands, and that’s not good enough for the two most experienced guys on the team.

Two things I saw Saturday night:
Levi Randolph stole the ball and broke away for an easy layup. Tony trailed on the fast break and called for the ball, undoubtedly looking to complete one of his highlight reel dunks. When Levi kept the ball, Tony was very angry and said something both to Levi and in the direction of the bench.
After a timeout, Tony threw the ball in on the wrong side of the halfcourt line. The referee made him do it again, and Tony made several smart-ass gestures as he legally threw in the ball a second time. He then looked at the ref with a “Did I do it OK that time?” look that—were I the official—would have earned him a technical foul.
Until Saturday night, Tony Mitchell was my favorite basketball player. I hope he gets his head out of his fourth point of contact.

He does seem to have a case of the "poor-me" syndrome
Coach Saban would have lit him up too. Maybe this will get his head screwed back on successfully.

dammit
JaMychal was suspended too, made him a better player. Good to know no star is safe from discipline under Grant. Still….. kinda sucks this close to Selection Sunday
What's the deal?
IMHO it seems like Coach Grant can do more with less. It appears he has a few prima donnas that are more concerned with their own stats than the well being of the team and getting wins.
I hope he can get these young guys to fall in line and buy into his system so that he can be even more productive than he was at VCU.
my guess, tony sits against LSU and Auburn,
and unless he keeps being detrimental to the team with his conduct, he comes back against florida

Reminds me of the early growing pains under Saban.
Just taking longer to play out. This could be a good thing.
I think this is an accurate reflection of my seniments as well.
I am surprised by how not surprised I am.
ive been saying for weeks
There was internal problems with this team. Mark it down bama will be totally different team tomorrow night!

Am I the only one excited about this?
I hated seeing Alabama turn into a program with awful leadership. a.k.a the antithesis of the football program. I am happy we have a coach willing to lose a game to save a program.

If it's what it looks like it is
I’m excited, too. But we don’t really know it’s Grant dropping the hammer on an attitude problem, do we? Anyway, if that’s what it is, the hell yeah, we should be proud and hopeful about it.
I hope he gets his head on straight
because, although they may win a game or two with him out, they are going nowhere if he’s out for an extended amount of time.

Not so sure.
There is plenty of talent on this team to beat most people without Mitchell. Not UK and probably not UF, but we would not beat them with Mitchell.
I think the trade off of getting these guys to play like a team and to be focused is worth Mitchell’s contribution. By the way, if Tony thinks he is going early to the NBA he might want to rethink it. Right now if he turned pro he would be in Europe or worse.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
Hey. We could beat UF.
I’m holding out hope on that game, okay?
I’m holding out quite a bit of irrational hope right now, though. Like I really, really, really want us to be in Greensboro for the “2nd and 3rd” rounds (first weekend) of the tournament, because then my dad and I will go to the game(s).

After tonight UF looks very beatable.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
Tough love . . .
. . . but you can’t run a successful program with integrity if you allow players to put themselves above the team. I hope that Mitchell will realize that he can help himself by doing exactly what the coaches ask of him.
"...an entitled brand of basketball"
…was i believe the quote from coach grant. excited to see this. mitchell has come to resemble a certain record setting receiver at ua in the late shula/early saban years…no one player is bigger than the team and we have some young talent that can get this team into the sweet 16 in a couple of years if they aren’t infected by a few prima donnas and ‘entitled basketball’
Do you speak of one DJ Hall?
Whatever happened to him after Bama?
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
Great example of a guy with enough talent . . .
. . . to make it at the next level but he lacked the emotional maturity to give his heart to the team and to work every minute to make himself a better player.
We aint looking good in the future without the big guy.
I just hope Anthony Grant has control over this team.Sometimes being too much of a hard ass can backfire.

Coach Bryant & Coach Saban would disagree

If his heart ain't with the team . . .
. . . we’re better off without him.
I'd rather play with six guys who give it their all
Than nine with a bunch of attitude and sense of entitlement. That being said, I think the players that Grant has recruited have been of the right caliber, so I hope we don’t see this again next year.
