Before I go any further let me preface with this. The Georgia Gym Dogs DID NOT qualify out of the semi-finals. Which means a bunch of good tickets probably opened up. Duluth is about a four hour drive from T-Town and a one day ticket runs only about 30$ or so. I implore any of the Bama faithful who have free time this Saturday or who happen to live close, come on out!
Now onto what happened. In Session 1, UCLA, Stanford and Utah advanced and in Session 2, Alabama, Florida and Arkansas advanced, setting up a Pac-Infinity v SEC showdown. Alabama and Florida are both hot favorites right now as Florida has been dominating the whole season and Bama came roaring out of their slump to post the second highest score of the season.
All season long the Balance Beam has been Alabama's bigger and bigger obstacle, ultimately costing them meets at Oklahoma and the SEC Championship. Tonight, the beam was their bi...... um.... highlight. Alabama scored a 49.600 on the beam (49.500 is pretty ridiculous so yeah, it was big) and every gymnasts counting score was 9.9 or higher. Alabama did not have a perfect night though. Floor was overwhelmingly meh and last minute heroics by junior Ashley Sledge, seniors Ashley Priess and Geralen Stack-Eaton on the uneven bars saved the meet at the end with 9.9s.
Tonight, or well, this evening, all will be decided. If Alabama can bottle last nights showing and hit tonight, the sky is the limit.
You can catch it streamed live from NCAA official page or ESPN3.
