(It's a little over-dramatic, I know, but there is no real football news)
As has been well-documented, forward Devonta Pollard (6-8, 205) is the last 2012 5-star basketball player to not sign. Despite having three scholarships open, Coach Anthony Grant has not signed anyone. Pollard is seemingly the one and only target.
He would be a perfect replacement of JaMychal Green without the drama (DP is a good kid) and most likely a starter from Game 1.
This has been a crazy process:
- He did not sign on the LOI deadline (May 16) which is rare. No explanation as to why since he had completed all his visits in April.
- There has been absolutely NO news or rumors or anything as to which way he is leaning. In this age of the internet, that is an amazing phenomena.
- There could be some dark horses. The guy from Georgetown who was recruiting him (BTW, Pollard probably would not even be considering Georgetown if Bama had not played them this past year in B'ham and he saw them beat the Tide) is now at LSU and they could be in the running. MSU was his favorite until Stansbury got canned. With the passing of so much time, it is possible they could be back in his good graces.
The big thing Bama has going for them is that they are close to his hometown of Porterville, MS. He is VERY close to his widowed mother and word is that she would move to the town where he attends college.
The addition of Pollard would be a BIG jump forward for the program. Not getting him would leave the team with 10 scholarship players and NO real shooting forwards. Nick Jacobs is the ONLY other forward on the team but he is a power forward.
