Update: Editing this post to focus on selection committee vs. BCS rankings.
Assumptions:
- Polls/Humans are biased and computers can only follow the logic/programming that's put into the algorithms.
- Coaches don't have time to review many games outside of their next opponent
- Polls will always exist even if you have a selection committee
Questions: How is a selection committee going to be BETTER than a tweaked BCS ranking system? The BCS rankings are very close to AP and they only lack strength of schedule. If the BCS included SOS and the computers were transparent in their logic would this not be a better solution? If not, why?
