The NCAA is conducting an investigation into a "potential recruiting irregularity" involving the Mississippi State University football program.

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to The Dispatch MSU Sports Blog the investigation, at least in part, involves an automobile purchased for MSU freshman defensive back Will Redmond. The Ford Mustang was purchased before Redmond signed with MSU this February from a used car dealership in his hometown of Memphis, Tenn.

Columbus Dispatch | Sources: NCAA investigation of Mississippi State football involves car for Will Redmond Again, you play by the rules for Cam Newton, but go all in for Will Redmond? You knew something sinister was afoot when the young assistant coach resigned for "personal reasons" ten days before the season opener. Undoubtedly, MSU will claim this is an isolated assistant gone rogue and that in response the school took the appropriate actions in a timely fashion. That defense worked well enough for LSU a year ago with D.J. McCarthy.
