Two LSU veteran players' status for the 2012 season opener is in limbo as an academic appeal process unfurls.
Tigers' Coach Les Miles confirmed Monday that tailback Michael Ford and outside linebacker Tahj Jones have some eligibility issues to scale before No. 3-ranked LSU takes on North Texas at 6 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Stadium.

As mentioned earlier today, no real test for LSU on the schedule until mid-season, but this could be a bit of a chink in the armor if these two miss the season. Ford, the leading rusher a year ago, could probably be adequately replaced by the triumvirate of Blue, Hilliard and Ware, but the loss of Jones -- who was expected to start at linebacker -- could be a bigger problem on what is expected to be one of their weaker units.
