Inspired by the well-written as always "Random Thoughts from Around the SEC" by OTS, I wanted to throw in my two cents about a few non-SEC teams of note:
Southern California: DEPTH ALERT! Remember how all the preseason pundits were lauding USCw like they were going to walk away with the NC? We were the ones who said they are one injury away from disaster and it happened Saturday. Without their starting center, it was a Stanford jail break and Matt Barkley got hammered all night.
Virginia Tech: gets the WTF of the Week losing 35-17 to Pitt who had been 0-2 inlcuding a 31-17 loss to Youngstown State. Aren't you glad Frank Beamer never became the Alabama coach?
Florida State: now that exhibition season is over (Murray State, Savannah State, Wake Forest), we'll see what they are really made of hosting Clemson on Saturday.
Oregon: same could be said for the Ducks fattening up on their cupcakes (Arkansas State, Fresno State, Tennessee Tech). They get Arizona who by default has found their way into the rankings
Western Kentucky: Kentucky's loss is Alabama's gain in strength of schedule. This win was no fluke. WKU is a solid team with a smart coaching staff (some of whom will be poached after this season). Look for the Hilltoppers to contend for the Sun Belt crown.
