Recruiting Update: Surprise Visits

After two REALLY big recruiting weekends Jan. 11 and Jan, 18, things were thought to have quieted down as far as visits go. However, there were a few visitors this past weekend that flew under the radar:

Jarran Reed: 6-4/302, DT, Ole Miss commit. He is originally from Goldsboro, North Carolina. In 2011, it looked like he was going to end up at UNC but was an academic casualty. After a stint at Hargrave Football Factory followed by a season at East Mississippi CC (Quinton Dial came from there as well), he re-committed to UNC this past summer. Reed then de-committed in November - 3 days after the Tar Heels took a 68-50 homecoming loss to Georgia Tech while he was in Oxford, MS on an official visit. On December 10, Reed commits to the Rebels. He does not currently have an offer from the Tide. Methinks he might be a Plan B.

Dee Liner: 6-2.5/277, 4-star DT. Surely you know this story by now. He was a long-time commit to Auburn until the wheels came off the bus this season, followed by the transmission. He was just in Tuscaloosa for an official visit the weekend of January 11. His return this past weekend for an unofficial visit has to be a good sign.

Henry Poggi: 6-4/270, 4-star DT, Michigan commit. This outstanding lineman is from Gilman HS in Baltimore, MD, the same high school as current Tide wide receiver Cyrus Jones. Gilman's coach is Biff Poggi, Henry's dad. The elder Poggi says during every off-season he likes to visit the schools where his players go and sonny-boy is tagging along. Brady Hoke will not sleep well tonight. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, former Southern Cal commit Eddie Vanderdoes 6-2/310 DT was in South Bend, IN where it snowed/sleeted and the temperature never got over 27. He will be in Tuscaloosa next weekend.

Can you tell the Alabama staff is looking for one more defensive tackle??
