Who Needs a Blogpoll: Week 12

Ranking USC means we get Song Girls. Not that you're complaining... - Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Lotta' bad football yesterday...and fully half of it came from the direction of Starkville.

A few very good games this weekend (and a lot of awful ones), resulted in a little sorting out. We're not going to swap Alabama-FSU because frankly what happened in Starkvegas is what usually happens versus Mississippi State: A sleepwalking, hangover game wedged between Auburn and LSU. Florida State has had its own issues with teams like Boston College, only Saban doesn't go for the pretty style points. This is still your likely Championship match. We'll settle the issue then. Somnolence is also why we're not going to dock Sakerlina. USC has always been inconsistent, and versus SOS' old team, playing for a bowl bid and some pride, tough conference games will happen. It's not pretty, but it's a win.

USC Trojans

---

O, Hai! USC Trojans - Jumped on top of the Cardinals early and the teams took turn squeezing the life out of one another the rest of the way. How badly did this team hate Lane Kiffin to make Da Coach O look like Vince Lombardi? Troy is a quiet 8-3, and undefeated since the dismissal of Kiffykins.

Be Gone! Texas - If the ‘Horns want to play this way against the Baptist Bears, Mack may get fired at halftime.

Social Promotion: Wisconsin - I'd love to see this Badger team, at this point in the season, versus Ohio State, who moves to 3rd on the fact that there is literally no one in the B1G who's going to come close to these guys. Sure, they can't stop a sneeze, but they will score 40+ along the way. Meyer is 22-0 with the Buckeyes. Oklahoma State - So, we all saw that coming, right? How this team lost to West Virginia is an absolute mystery. Arizona State -Moved up a tad based on the fact I probably had them undervalued (see, I can admit mistakes!) Auburn -Moves up a bit not because of anything special this week, rather the corpus of work. In a year where so many Top 10 teams can score at will, but possess awful defenses, they're comparable. Unlike the other guys though, Auburn has a frightening defensive line and can play smashmouth when Malzahn isn't trying to make Nick Marshall into Derek Carr.

Held Back: Speaking of Derek Carr, the undefeated Fresno State Bulldogs move back a bit, as do the NIU Huskies, based on reevaluation. There is nothing special about any of their combined wins, so lower-teens seems about right, even though Carr and Lynch are fun to watch. Baylor - I just cannot buy this team, mainly because I don't believe anyone in the Big 12 is actually all that great, irrespective of records. The Oklahoma State game in two weeks is for the conference, in all practical respects. Stanford - Inconsistency, as usual. While this team is built to smack around spread Gimps, the secondary is still a little out of their depth. When you rush for 200+ yards, and hold the other guy to less than 30, you should be winning handily. Awful quarterbacking finally caught up too. UCF - I like this team; but I probably had them too high. Whatever happened at Temple was inexcusable.

Last Out: Louisville: NIU or Fresno...only with a loss. There is absolutely no one in the 25 above them (aside from maybe NIU or Fresno) who the Cardinals beat for a certainty. East Carolina: two losses by 8 points combined, to two bowl teams, otherwise just a Thresh Maw (N7, holla!).  Oklahoma: When your best wins are Texas Tech and Notre Dame? And two blowout losses? Can I have Bob Stoops' job please? Cincinnati: The prick has righted the ship, and the Bearcats are playing good ball. The Houston, Louisville finale will tell us a lot about all three teams.
