Alabama Football 2013: Spring Practice Offense Updates

Mike Zarrilli

There's good news from spring training: the team has practiced in pads four straight times, and there are still no new players in black no-contact jerseys. Past that? There's not a lot to report, at least on the defensive side of things.

In fact, it's not merely that there's no significant injury news, it's that the only injury news today is actually good news: John Fulton was seen on the field getting run around by the assistant coaches instead of on the exercise bike as he and Kevin Norwood have been all spring. Fulton may well get to run a few position drills before the spring practice period ends.

Otherwise, Dee Hart and C.J. Mosley remain the sole defenders in black.

Among the other sparse news is that Xzavier Dickson was working with the outside linebackers during the media-viewing period both Monday and today. That's the first time this spring that he has worked at the same position two practices in a row. It may be a sign that Denzel Devall and Ryan Anderson aren't blowing the coaches' socks off with their work at jack. Meanwhile, Anthony Orr continues to work with the ends after failing to see playing time as a redshirt freshman linebacker in 2012.

Speaking of defensive end, Ed Stinson and Jeoffrey Pagan look to have a firm grip on the starting jobs there, but Darren Lake may be pushing Brandon Ivory in the middle. Lake has gotten practice-field buzz since he walked on campus, and got significant playing time in 2012 as a true freshman. With no starter returning at the nose, he is trying to take advantage of his chance.

Jai Miller was seen today doing a little work with the walk-ons. He has mostly drilled in groups with scholarshipped players. A little patience may be in order here for those expecting too much too soon from the ex-baseballer. (And yeah, maybe I've been one of those.) Meanwhile, Hart and Cyrus Jones continue to work with the corners, making it look increasingly as if both have come to stay.
