Alabama is limited to 25 total scholarships per year. Many things could happen between today and February 5, 2014. Below is a breakdown by position for how 2014 recruiting looks for Alabama ... for now.
Quarterback - There is not much reason to believe that Alabama will sign any more quarterbacks beyond David Cornwell for 2014. He will be competing at the Elite 11 finals at The Opening in Portland, Oregon from June 29 to July 3. 18 of the nation's top QBs have been earned their way to this event. Check your local ESPN listings for air times.
Wide receiver - It is thought that the Tide will only take two pass catchers in this class but three is a slight possibility. Derek Kief is one. The second is believed to be among the following:
* Ermon Lane (6-2 175) 4-star, Homestead, FL - Top 3 ranked WR with Alabama leading Miami and Florida.
* Malachi Dupre (6-3 185) 4-star, River Ridge, LA - Also a top 3 ranked WR looks to be a strong LSU lean.
* Cameron Sims (6-4 190) 4-star, Monroe, LA - the 4-star WR appears solid for Alabama but the Tide may be waiting on Lane's decision.
Running back - Another position where Bama can be picky due to the current depth at the position. Bo Scarbrough is already in the house (though he could also play wide receiver or possibly linebacker if needed). Leonard Fournette from New Orleans (St. Augustine) is on everyone's wish list. The 6'1" 225 RB is one of the top three overall players in the nation. Waiting in the wings is Racean "Roc" Thomas ( ), a top runner from Oxford, AL.
Offensive Line - OL Coach Mario Cristobal has to be happy with the commitments the Crimson Tide has gotten to this point. Juco OT Dominick Jackson joins guard Viane Talamaivao and center J.C. Hassenauer with his commitment last week. In addition, greyshirt guard Bradley Bozeman will be added to the team this coming December. The staff will most likely be looking to sign at least one more tackle (if not more) with the nation's top OL Cameron Robinson as their #1 priority. He is the kind of player that they will hold a scholarship for until February. As you might have noticed, Saban's Process® has its own way of evaluating O-Line talent. There are too many potential candidates to list here.
Tight End/H-Back - This position is a need and an intricate part of the Alabama offense. Tyler Luatua, 6-3/235, 4-star from La Mirada, CA and brother of current Tide guard Isaac Luatua, has named Bama as his favorite and may be a silent commit at this point. Ravian Pierce of Plantation, FL is also on the radar.
