Predicting the 2013 SEC Football Season: Ole Miss

Is Ole Miss ready to take the next step? - Butch Dill

With less than 60 days until the college football season begins, it's never too early to look at the 2013 football schedules and make wild blind predictions.

The eighth in a series leading up to fall camps brings us to the Rebel Bears or the Black Bear Rebels or whatever they are calling themselves these days:

Ole Mississippi Admiral Ackbar Rebel Black Bears 7-6 (3-5) in 2012

Synopsis:There seems to be a lot of excitement surrounding this program with their improved play and shockingly successful recruiting. Is it justified? Is it a trap? Granted the Rebs signed some exciting young players but can it translate to wins on the field in 2013? Remember they still finished 7-6 last year including a home thrashing (66-31) by a mediocre Texas team. Furthermore, the seven wins came over C. Arkansas, UTEP, Tulane, Auburn, Arkansas, Miss. St, and Pitt.
For all of Hugh Freeze's recruiting, he still has some pretty big holes in the defensive backfield, guard, tight end, and both kickers have graduated. This Ole Miss team has potential but there is a vast lack of experience and depth.
Key Losses: RB Randall Mackey, TE Ferbia Allen, CB Wesley Pendleton, OG A.J. Hawkins, NT Gilbert Pena, P Jim Broadway, K Bryson Rose
Key Returners: LB Denzel Nkemdiche, WR Donte Moncrief, QB Bo Wallace
Newcomers: DE Robert Nkemdiche, WR Laquon Treadwell, OL Laremy Tunsil, DB Antonio Conner, DB Nickolas Brassell

The Schedule:
8/29/13 at Vanderbilt (Nashville, TN) - This Thursday night game could set the tone for the whole season for both teams - Win
9/7/13 vs. SE Missouri St (Oxford, MS) - Win
9/14/13 at Texas (Austin, TX) - Freeze must be cursing Houston Nutt's name for scheduling this series. He'll be more happier when his scheduling takes over - Loss
9/21/13 bye
9/28/13 at Alabama (Tuscaloosa, AL) - Loss
10/5/13 at Auburn (Auburn, AL) - This is no gimme but Auburn is such a train wreck right now - Win
10/12/13 vs. Texas A&M (Oxford, MS) - Loss
10/19/13 vs. LSU (Oxford, MS) - Loss
10/26/13 vs. Idaho (Oxford, MS) - Win
11/2/13 bye
11/9/13 vs. Arkansas (Oxford, MS) - Home team takes this one - Win
11/16/13 vs. Troy (Oxford, MS) - Win
11/23/13 vs. Missouri (Oxford, MS) - Home Sweet Home - Win
11/28/13 at Mississippi State (Starkville, MS) - 5 day turnaround for these two teams could be a factor - Win

Let's go Bowling! Somebody has to go to Gator Bowl.

* Many of these games could go either way (Vandy, Auburn, MSU...). But I made a choice to predict each game. So, grain of salt, ya know?
