LINK There is a pretty good layout today about AJ on al dot com. The link at the beginning jumps to an article with part of an interview with his father talking about AJ being elected 3rd team All SEC. The focus of the story is the aTm QB (Who's name I won't print. He gets enough on his own and I for one am sick of it. Just putting my homerism to good use) and Arron Murray chip on his shoulder. I want to focus on what AJ says about his teammates' progression, including being able to just turn around and hand it to whoever is back there and there is no difference.
There are a few interesting things AJ reveals through his father about some of the guys he likes. There are two names he mentions specifically. The first shouldn't be too surprising. The first was Raheem Falkins. His name is one we've heard quite a few good things about from various people including CNS. The other is the one that stands out: OJ Howard. We all know what kind of talent he came in with, and we have heard plenty about his " supposed" lack of blocking skills. And I only say supposed because, really, what do we REALLY know. How many of us has actually seen him and what he does "behind the iron curtain?" I'm sure he needs work at blocking, maybe a lot. I just know AJ's father said those two names. He didn't mention any of the other new or returning receivers. I'm sure he's talked about the others. But with AJ's dad saying those two specific names, it seems to me AJ may have talked more about them than others.
Even though it was a conversation with his father and not an ESPN talking head, AJ seems to speak his mind period, no matter with whom he is talking. And with the lack of as much info as we'd all like to know. disseminate and pick apart any tidbit of info we get like a school of piraña in the Amazon River going after an unlucky cow.
I just think back to that little video that went viral back in the summer of '08 that showed Julio beating that secondary which had Rasaad Johnson and Javier Arenas, among others. CNS was pretty p'd off about that little glimpse. Or, it could have been a strategic thing, who knows with the Coach. But I tend to believe the former. He doesn't want S**T getting into ANYONE'S hands.
Anyway, all I know is the man who distributes the rock has seemed to develop a pretty good chemistry with the true freshman from Prattville. I say that because he's a pretty straight shooter and it was in conversation with a person in which he confides.
This is obviously pure speculation and I have no idea really, I live in South Florida and have no fingers on the proverbial pulse of anything. But I do think this little comment may be a tiny bit of insight. It would not surprise me in the least to see some packages that can take advantage of his ability. It's just like CNS to do something like this. Yes, we did get the little taste of Julio, but did we have a TRUE belief Mark Ingram would be who he was as a freshman? We heard the good camp reports, but we had no idea really. Like I said, I don't know, but I wouldn't be shocked to see OJ with 3-5 maybe 7 targets/catches against Va Tech with the 1st team offense in higher level situations. JMHO
