It was a sunny day,but at 32 degrees it sure didn't seem like baseball weather. However the Tide took the field on the first day that the whole team could practice together for a nine inning scrimmage. The score was unimportant- 3 to 1 by the way, but the work three weeks prior to opening day was.
If opening day was today the line up would be 1. Mikey White SS, 2. Georgie Salem CF, 3. Ben Moore RF, 4.Wade Wass C, 5. Will Haynie DH,6 Kyle Overstreet 2B, 7. Austen Smith 1B, 8.Chance Vincent 3B, 9. Ryan Blanchard LF. The rotation, most likely would be Fri Ray Castillo Sat Justin Kamplain Sun Spencer Turnbull. midweek Mike Ozcypok, Thomas Burrows and Nick Eicholtz. Tucker Hawley, Taylor Guilbeau, Jon Keller, Geoff Bramblett, Jay Shaw will all work from the pen.
Hunter Webb, Casey Hughston, Matthew Goodson JC Wilhite and Daniel Cucjen will look to get playing time in the field as well.
In today's scrimmage Moore stroked a double and single, Smith had a scorching double, and Haynie blasted a long home run. Blanchard, Vincent and Goodson added hits. Burrows pitched four outstanding shut out innings.Hawley three three sharp innings. Keller pitched two shutout innings also. Eicholtz looked good in his three innings. Castillo struggled in his two innings, but he will work that out and should be a bell cow of the staff.
Saturday morning at 11.45 will be the next practice-scrimmage. With only three weeks to get ready Coach Mitch Gaspard is looking to have four to five scrimmages weekly to get game ready.
