As an Alabama fan, this is the best thing ever: Auburn Considers Pretending It Won Another Four National Championships.
Auburn was banned from post-season play in 1993, so they can't be champs that year any more than Ohio State were champs in 2012.
But the best part about this is that Auburn fans LOVE arguing with Bama fans about how many championships Alabama claims. If Auburn claims these championships--which the NCAA does not recognize--Alabama wins that argument FOREVER.
The 2013 NCAA Division I FBS Football Record Book (flawed as it may be) recognizes Auburn has having won National Championships in 1913, 1957, 1983, 1993, and 2010. Auburn claims 1957 and 2010.
They want to claim 1910, 1914, 1958, and 2004, which the NCAA does not recognize.
Obviously they're doing this because Alabama claims 15 National Championships, but all of Alabama's are in the NCAA Record Book, as well as some Bama doesn't claim (in italics): 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941, 1945, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, and 2012.
The important thing to remember is that you can't claim a prize that isn't awarded to you. Try claiming the jackpot for a lottery you didn't win. Let me know how it goes.
If Auburn claims these new ones, I hope Alabama claims all 19 of ours.
