Frozen Tide Falls 3-1 to Ole Miss

Damn Rebels...again.

Tide come up short against the Rebels in ACHA Southern Regional Play

Yesterday, you may recall us mentioning that Ole Miss has been a somewhat problematic opponent this season, and yesterday in Columbia, SC was no different as the Frozen Tide fell 3-1 against the Rebels.

In a heavily penalized affair (four-on-four was not an unusual occurrence), Alabama took the lead late in the first period 1-0. Then, midway in the second, Ole Miss turned it up --especially on special teams. After scoring at even strength to tie the game, the Rebels scored late in the period on the power play to make it 2-1. The Rebels would add another power play goal in the third. Ole Miss' goaltending held, and Alabama was not able to capitalize in the third, despite many chances with the man advantage.

With the win, Ole Miss advances to the ACHA Nationals for the second straight season, where they join SECHC Champion, Arkansas (South Carolina fell to Miami 7-4). Alabama meanwhile ends its season, but on an optimistic note: The team only loses three seniors, and returns all-everything Bryan Puffer next season; the Tide swept Auburn and Tennessee (in four games that were not even competitive); and, support for the program is at an all-time high. The latter is particularly important as old nemesis LSU returns to the SECHC next year, and it doesn't look like the Arkansas is going to slip any time soon either.

Thanks for a great season, and Roll Tide.
