Sunday afternoon, defending SECHC Champion Alabama dropped the championship finale to nemesis, Arkansas, in a 2-1 decision.
Alabama took a 1-0 lead midway through the second, and -entering the third period, had dominated the Hogs on special teams, particularly in the penalty kill. Then, the third period arrived, and Arkansas' power play finally struck to tie the match at 1-1. Later, Arkansas would add another goal to take the 2-1 lead. In a game decided by special teams, Alabama had a chance to knot the game up late, as the Tide went on the power play with just two minutes remaining. Arkansas stoned the Tide, however, and the Razorbacks held on for the win and the championship.
Arkansas was the 1 seed in the West, and the overall 1 seed in the tourney. As expected, the Hogs cruised through their side of the draw. Alabama, the 2 Seed in the West, defeated Vanderbilt and East 1 seed Florida to make the Finals. This is Arkansas' third SECHC title in four seasons.
Congratulations to the Frozen Tide for another great season...which may not be over just yet. Depending upon final Rankings, the Tide may still make regionals (and, if they prevail there, nationals). We'll keep you updated.
