DB Flips From Kentucky To Alabama

Kirby Smart reels in another Georgia player. - Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Montrell Custis had a feeling that Lexington, Kentucky was the place for him. He committed to the Wildcats back in November 2013. But then Lance Thompson and Kirby Smart came a-callin'.

Custis was offered by the Crimson Tide in late February and participated in Junior Day a week later. After an unofficial visit to the Capstone last weekend, he realized where he wanted to be.

Currently, the 6-0, 180-pound defensive back is rated 3 stars but expect that rating to be readjusted once more eyes fall upon him. He received the Top DB Award at the Atlanta MVP Camp earlier this month.

From 247Sports.com:

Montrell Custis has all the tools to become a solid defensive back at the next level. He has size, speed, agility and great ball skills. Able to play intense press man to man coverage as well as soft zone, Custis is one of the top defensive backs in the class of 2015. He also displays big play potential as a wide receiver and is a home run threat each and every time he touches the ball.

From Scout.com

Is he a corner? Is he a safety? In some drills, he looked like a future free safety, but he can also cover. He has very good ball skills and he has good reaction quickness. He measured in just over 6-feet and he really performed at a high level from start to finish Sunday (at the Atlanta MVP Camp).

The Lovejoy High School product is the fourth Georgia resident to commit to the Tide for 2015. Custis chose Alabama over offers from Auburn, Clemson, Oregon, Tennessee, Ole Miss and of course Kentucky among others.
